My Week with Marilyn REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the motion picture, "My Week with Marilyn." Let me just say that I LOVE this film. It was just outstanding for many of reasons, so I gets the worthy rating of a 9/10. I say with my ratings that with 9-10/10's (some 8's can make it) are defiantly Oscar worthy, and holy crap this movie is/was defiantly that. So lets talk about Marilyn shall we?

Well lets get the stupid little annoyance I had with the film out of the way shall we? Um what was with the love story between Colin and Lucy (Emma Watson's character)? It really had no relevance in this film I feel like. I mean Emma did an amazing job, but he was in love with her and then BAM. Nope that relationship in his head is just over after awhile (sorry about the spoilers there). I will not say anymore though, as not to give anything away. That was my only thing I had to say negative about the film, otherwise . . .

OH MY GOD! Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Julia Ormond, and every single actor/actress in this film did such an AMAZING job. Michelle Williams, in my opinion, was Marilyn. I was just shocked by her performance. I felt like just wow, I thought this whole movie was just real to me. Everyone acting in the film just did an outstanding job. Kenneth was just the best too. Great job everyone. The script was just beautiful. It portrayed Marilyn's life great, and what had happened with the making of this film. It was spectacular. The direction of this film was done great, by a Mr. Simon Curtis. Thanks you Mr. Curtis for making such an excellent film, that I enjoyed every second of. Of course its not just him that makes the movie though. I want to thank everyone who had a part in making this movie. This movie made me think of how I want to be Colin Clark. I want to help make a movie, even if it means being the 3rd Assistant Director, and getting people there coffee. This movie just shows you also the life of a famous person, like Marilyn or Sir Lawrence. It may seem like all fun and games but it really it isn't all that. It does take a lot of work to be a great actor/actress. One more thing to say though. I thought this film would be boring, and I was kind of dreading watching it, but the film defiantly made me love it very much.

Well all-in-all really doesn't sum up this movie. Sure this movie is a "tour-de-force" as some people would like to call it, but it sure is a very good film that portrays great modern actors, acting as great classic actors. It defiantly deserves it's 9/10 rating I gave it. It surely is a "Must-See movie" along with a great popcorn flick.

Well make sure you subscribe by email in the sidebar to know when I update the blog next, if you haven't already done that. Comment below though on your thoughts about "My Week with Marilyn" if you have seen it also if you would like. Ted REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the first motion picture from the creator of the hit TV series Family Guy, "Ted." Let me just say if I could do a point 0.5 added onto a number I would, but I can't go "Ted" gets a well deserved 7/10! I would be giving it a 7.5/10 but I can't so a seven it is. Well lets talk about this hilarious movie shall we?

Lets start with the positives in this film, because right now thats all I can think about because this movie was just LAUGH-OUT-LOUD funny. Ugh the humor in this film was, yes, raunchy, racist, and stereotypical. What do you expect though? Its from the creators of Family Guy. Seth Macfarlane has definitely outdone himself with the movie. With his involvement in writing, directing, and acting in this film. All of him was superb. Speaking of acting in this film, I LOVED Mila Kunis, Mark Wahlberg, and Giovanni Ribisi in this film. Giovanni did an EXCELLENT job as a creepy obsessed dude. Oh he was just hilarious, and after seeing him in serious roles it just made me laugh. The plot of this film was very well done though, everything seemed to connect together, logically. In the end making a very good film, that made you laugh the whole way through, but yet made you feel something heartfelt too. Oh one thing to add here is that I loved this one scene where they used silence instead of background music, so you could here EVERYTHING perfect. Made it 100 times more funny. Now . . .

Things that kind of bothered me with this tim though. Yes there are some, and I do have to say them. I felt like the beginning of this film, took forever to start. I dunno I just wanted the film to hurry up to the part where they were all older and when John (Mark's character) wasn't young anymore. I also saw to much of a similarity to Family Guy. Yes of course there are going to be some similarities (being it coming from its creator) but the musical notes in some scenes just made me think of Family Guy instantly. Oh and there was this one scene that had goofy sound effect. I felt like that was completely unnecessary. I think those were my complaints, not many but a few.

So all-in-all a VERY funny film, a sure-good movie to watch when you need something to laugh too (unlike "Jack & Jill"). It is definitely a popcorn flick on my list. So make sure you go check it out in theaters.

Now remember to subscribe by email in the sidebar so you know when I update the blog with another post, that has something to do with movies. Make sure you hurry to and vote on the poll, short amount of time left to vote on that. Now make sure you continue to check back here so you can call yourself a "Motion Picture Buff" too. More reviews and movie talk coming soon. So stay tuned . . .

21 Jump Street REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for "21 Jump Street." I just finished watching this film, and I think I would have to give this film a 6/10 rating. It was all-in-all a very good film, but I had some major to minor negatives about this film. It was funny though, but lets get to the actually review right now.

Positives first for this review today shall we. Okay I really liked the relationship between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. It was very believable and very well done. They seemed like they were born to do what they did in this film. I like how there personalities switched when they went back to High School (not giving anything away I swear)! The other acting in this film also didn't suck, like what usually happens in films like this where the two main roles are really good and everyone else sucks. This movie was shove down your throat funny either. It was actually funny at some parts, but was serious when it needed to be (sure some parts were stupid funny, but you need stupid funny sometimes). I liked the cameo in this film, made me like super happy when I saw it. The plot/script of this film was well written (except one thing later). I thought they did a great job with telling the story of this film. I liked how everything played out and when it played out in the film. Everything seemed to click, if you know what I mean?

Now for the negatives that I have. I thought it was a little bit predictable. Like I thought I knew who the bad guy was going to be, and to find out I was actually right the whole time. There was one part that was in slow-motion (will not mention part) but I feel like it was an unnecessary amount of slow-motion.  Oh I really wasn't a fan of Ice Cube in the film, he isn't my favorite actor in the world. I know I shouldn't judge a movie based on a actor I don't like, but I feel like someone could have done a better job in this film. One other thing I have to say is that the movie seemed to take forever. I realize it was only a hour-and-a-half, but I thought it was never going to end.

Well anyways, a good movie to pop in one night for a good laugh. There was this one part that I just laughed my head of at. Of course a couple other parts too, but this one part I absolutely loved. So a good popcorn flick with some friends some night. Good deserved 6/10 rating. I usually say a 6-7 out of 10 is average.

Last Night REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" presents a review for the film, "Last Night," starring Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Guillaume Canet, and Eva Mendes. This film was wonderful in my opinion, and I would give it a 8/10. For a guy, I do love to watch romantic movies, and I do tend to love the for some odd reason. Now though, lets get to this review.

Well lets get the little bad things out of the way first shall we, and then we can end this movie on a positive note. Well one thing I did not like was Eva Mendes in this movie, I really didn't like her acting very much in this film. Plus she kind of readily annoyed me when she was on screen. Normally I like her, but not in this film (her acting seemed kind of forced). Now the other thing that docked this film down a point was the ending (but at the same time I like it, know what I mean). I do not want to give it away, but let me just say, "I HATE those kind of endings."

Now for the positives. I really liked the transitions in this film. I thought they did a really good job with keeping up with both stories that were going on in this film, as that is what it is about. I really loved the plot of this film. I thought, Massy Tadjedin, did a very good job writing this film (along with directing). All of the love stories (which includes three of them) were very believable in my opinion, even though one really wasn't so much love as it was an attraction. I was shot out of my seat by Keira's performance as her character, Joanna. I also liked Guillaume's performance in this film. I thought these two did the greatest job in the film with acting. They just made me believe in there relationship. I also liked Griffin Dunne in this film, I thought he did a great job. The music in this film also set the tone very well. Going  back to the plot though now . . . I really liked what happened and the way it happened (trying not to give anything away here). I almost thought the end was going to be completely stupid. Mind you I hate the ending that happened, I hate it when movies use that kind of ending on you. Just irritates me, but at the same time they are really good endings. In a way they are the only way, and the perfect way to end the story. OKAY POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ THE ITALICIZED WORDS: It is perfect because it makes you think, and I absolutely love it when a movie can make you think. I hate it because you wanna know what had happened, but I guess it is left for you to interpret.

All-in-all a very VERY good film. I loved watching the love stories in this film. I was anxious the whole time waiting to see what was going to happen. So it definitely deserves it's 8/10 rating I gave it, just a few things that the movie needed to change. A defiant popcorn flick for you and your loved one.

Well make sure you subscribe by email in the sidebar so you can be notified when I update another review, or some sort of movie news. More reviews are coming (hopefully almost) everyday. "Taken 2" OFFICIAL FIRST TRAILER

The "Motion Picture Buff" presents the first official trailer for the squeal to Liam Neeson's 2008 action hit, Taken 2. I say it looks kind of good and kind of dumb. Not 100% sure how I feel exactly about it yet, but check out the trailer. I think the trailer sets up the film perfectly, but the film is going to have to answer a few questions though (like how are the Mom and Liam's Character back together). I do though have hunch about a part in the film though already.

Well check it out below and let me know what you think about, "Taken 2."

Jack and Jill REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" presents a review for the feature film starring Adam Sandler, "Jack and Jill."  Well what to say about this film? Well lets just make it simple shall we? I gave it a rating of 2/10. Wow I seriously lost some brain cells watching this film, that I will never EVER get back. Lets get this over with shall we?

To start lets get the positives out of the way, which only include like one . . . two might count, most likely not though. I liked the message of the film, not the way it was delivered. Just how it says we should stick close to our family, the way this film brought it out was just dumb. The other tiny thing is that it made me chuckle at a few things but thats it, a few.

Now for the long list of negatives from this film. First I want to clear the air on why I actually watched this film tonight. I watched it because I wanted a comedy for once to watch, sad to find out (even though I already knew this was going to be terrible) that it killed some of my brain cells along the way. Now Jill was so annoying, and sad to say that I could tell every minute of the film that it was Adam Sandler under that big buffoned outfit. The script of this film was just downright DUMB. I feel like they were just shoving funny down our throats the whole film. I am disappointed to see that Al Pacino and Katie Holmes were in this film. Sorry, but your career must have been pretty desperate to choose this film to star in. Al Pacino and Jill's love story was just freaking WIERD!!! Ugh seriously, I mean it when I lost brain cells from this film. I will also say that some scenes in this film didn't even seem at all realistic with the sound effects or whatever. Yet they were meant to be funny, when in reality they weren't at all. This film deserves the 2/10 I gave it, probably could get away with a 1/10, but I will leave it here at 2.

All-in-all, if you want to lose some brain cells at any point in your life you can go out and buy this film because you definitely will lose some. No one in there right mind would choose to watch this film if they had to. Like with Al Pacino's TV ad at the end of the film, "Burn it, every last copy!"

NEWS FLASH: Filmaker/author Nora Ephron dies

The famous screenwriter of "You've Got Mail, Julie & Julia, and Sleepless in Seattle" died today at the age of 71 years old. Her name was Nora Ephron. According to famous movie database, IMDb, she died after losing a battle with leukemia.

Nora Ephron was born on May 19, 1941. He most recent film she wrote, directed, and produced was "Julie & Julia," which received a lot of critical acclaim. I personally love that film VERY much. Nora had directed eight films in her lifetime, starting in 1992 with "This is My Life," and her last time directing for "Julie & Julia." She also wrote 14 films in her career, along with the story to a TV series called Adam's Rib.

Rest In Peace Nora Ephron. I may not have never gotten to know you, but I will miss you films you could have potentially created. You are one of the people who inspire me to do what I want to do. I loved your film "Julie & Julia." I have yet to watch the other films you have created, but I have always wanted to.

The Avengers REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for Marvel's "The Avengers." Well I am sure you all can guess what I am going to rate this film right? Well I can honestly say it is not a full 10/10 unfortunately (it takes a lot for a movie to be able to do that). It is thought a 9/10 FOR SURE!!! If I could do 9.5/10 I would but I cannot so on we go with the review, with one tiny negative about the movie.

Well we should get this darn negative out the way right away. The only thing that bothered me about this film was the fact that it starts out that Iron Man and Captian America agree and like each other and work together for a little bit, but then they are suddenly arguing? I just don't get that I guess. (Oh and also I am not a huge fan of Chris Evans as Captian America but he did okay).

OTHERWISE this film is just bloody freaking epic. Oh it made me laugh, cry, gave my goosebumps, and much MUCH more. I don't want to give anything away to anyone (very few people) who hasn't seen it, so I am going to not try and talk to much about this film. Though I do want to talk about the directing, acting, plot, and just the awesomeness that came from this film. Directing: Joss Whedon was defiantly the man for the job, 1000 freaking percent. The camera angles were always just perfect, and I love how he made every Avenger relevant, even Black Widow and Hawkeye. Acting: well Robert Downey Jr. always does his absolute best as Iron Man (my favorite). I always wonder if that is how he is somewhat in real life? Mark Ruffalo is made to be the Hulk. You might have heard people say this before, but I am going to say it anyway, this movie made me LOVE the Hulk. I hated him before this, but now he is one of my favorite superhero's. Of course though everyone else did a GREAT job. The plot of this film was just superb. Joss Whedon you have defiantly outdone yourself this year with this film. You are now on my list of directors to watch out for. This movie was just a bad-ass movie all together. I love this movie so much, well probably obvious because I have seen it four times now. Just everything, and mostly the last like 20-30 minutes. Not going to give anything away though so I am shutting my words up.

All-in-all a very, VERY good motion picture that I absolutely love, but can't give it my best rating because I said to myself, even if there is one little thing I do not like about it I have to bump it down one rating, which sucks for this film because I love it so much. So a well deserve popcorn flick rating along with a 9/10. A MUST SEE!!!

Brave REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff' presents a review for Disney's Pixar film "Brave." The rating that I believe this film deserves is a sad 5/10. Keep in mind this though: I do believe this film is a good kid movie. For Pixar though I had a few problems with this film.

Starting now with the negatives in this review is that halfway through the film, when she decides to change her fate, the complete tone of the film decides to change. The first half of the film had a completely different tone than the other half, but then at the end it went back to its original tone, and they didn't change slowly, it was like BAM change of the movies tone. For this it lost about two points on my scale. Then apparently she changed her fate? I feel like what had happened (trying not to give away any spoilers) really wasn't a change of fate at all. For that it lost about two more points, it really bugged me. Then the one other point came from it trying to hard to be funny. I feel like the film just tried way to hard, I mean sure I laughed at some points and such, but at some points it was just plain old stupid.

Now to end on a positive note it was funny (in some spots) and cute. I loved the voices for this film, everyone who voiced there characters did an absolute amazing job. Pixar seems to do a great job with picking people to voice there characters. For example: Monsters Inc., Toy Story, The Incredibles, and others. One more thing that I liked you could say was the messages that "Brave" tried to tell. I said earlier that I hated how the transition was between them, but I have to say I do like what they were trying to say, just not how they said it.

All-in-all this movie had a good message for kids just didn't it abruptly and not in a good fashion. A good kid movie I guess, but unlike other Pixar's (excluding Cars and Cars 2) where they have it so parents can enjoy it also. So a deserved rating of 5/10. Now people might not like it but what can I say I didn't like how the plot went with the tone. Could have been better.

Rock of Ages REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the musical "Rock of Ages." For this film I would have to give it a 4/10 on my scale. This movie was absolutely ridiculous, but there were a few things that kept me somewhat interested in the film.

So lets start this review with the positives of the film. The music in this film was absolutely the greatest. I love 80's music, and this film had the best of the best from that era. I thought that some of the acting from some of the actors/actresses was very well done. For example: Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, Julianne Hough as Sherrie, Alec Baldwin as Dennis, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Patricia Whitmore. Those were the only things I really liked about this film.

Now for the negatives of this film which as by the 4/10 rating, has a lot of them. This film seemed to want to be everywhere at once. The singing didn't just stay in one place when it came to a song. They went to every story line in the film basically for every song sung. So it wasn't just one person singing a song, it was almost the whole cast. Now back on the topic of story lines, this film seemed to have a lot of them. One with Tom Cruises character, then one with Catherine's character, then one with Julianne's character, and also one with Alec's. The love stories in this film were crazy in my opinion. Two of the love stories were about a couple who just met and apparently they were in love like a blink of an eye. I do believe in love at first sight but this film just stretched its limits to far. Then the other love story came out of nowhere, but was a somewhat normal love that had developed over a time period. One other thing I had hated about this film was that there was this one lady who was in a lot of shots for some songs, but really had NO relevance.

Over all, I just felt like this movie was all over the place and didn't do it well at all. The music in this film though was absolutely excellent, along with the singing. Oh I forgot to mention that I do not know how this film was only PG-13 too, that floored me a little. Back on topic though, so all-in-all "Rock of Ages" deserves its 4/10 rating.

Now remember to stay tuned into the blog, subscribe by email in the side bar. So that way you can be emailed when I update a new post. More reviews are coming VERY soon. Alien REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the first installment in the Alien Anthology, Alien. I am going to give Alien a 7/10 on my scale. Now most people are going to rebel against this and say I should be giving it a 9-10/10. But there are some grips I had about this movie, but all-in-all it was a very good film.

Since I had very few bad things to say about this movie I will start with the negatives and end on a positive note. The main negative (but also a positive in some spots) about this movie in my opinion was how they dragged out scenes. Like in the beginning where they are just showing the empty space shuttle. I mean really, it was super boring and I was considering this movie to be dumb already. Of course though I was corrected later on. It lost a point on that though, and then they used it later on and it lost another point due to that. Then there were just little things that bothered me, very infinitesimal things so a 7/10.

Now for the positives of this very good film. I loved, LOVED the actors and actresses in this film. I thought Sigourney Weaver KILLED as Ellen Ripley. She definitely was made for that part. Ian Holm did a GREAT job with the robot Ash. Everyone I think did a great job. Now for a good positive from the dragging things out. It helped create the suspense needed for the scary parts. Oh and trust me when I watched this with my sister we were both freaking out. I literally strangled my pillow that night. So the film did an amazing job with its suspense and horror section. It was also greatly written and directed by the great Ridley Scott. So thank you for a very good motion picture Ridley. Oh and more more thing I would like to comment on about the film was that Jerry Goldsmith did a great job with the score.

Again though all-in-all a very good film with great acting, but some parts that can get a little long and boring. It gets a well deserved 7/10 on my scale. So it is a definite movie that you will have to pick up on DVD or Blu-Ray to watch one night when you want a sic-fi or horror. A good popcorn flick.

Now make sure you stay tuned in on the blog more reviews will be coming soon, will try and make one  at least once a day. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the third installment in the animated series Madagascar. Well I am going to start off with my rating of this movie out 10. (For future references I will be reviewing movies out of 10, 10 being the best type of movie). So for my rating on Madagascar 3, it would have to be a 3/10.

I was absolutely disappointed with this movie. I usually hate sequels that keep pushing the limits of something that had GREAT in the first place, but when I saw the trailer to this film for the first time I thought they were going to do a decent job with this film. Sad to say that I thought wrong, obviously with my 3/10 rating on this film. What floors me is that this movie is getting a lot of critical acclaim and doing pretty well at the box office right at the moment. I saw it at a drive-in theater (which is second favorite way to see a film) and I thought it was absolutely ridiculous.

Well lets start with the negatives first shall we (there are few positives, which is why it got a 3). It was completely ridiculous as I have said. The villain (the evil animal control lady) was just a stupid unbelievable character. I realize that this movie is for kids, but still they were doing the absolute impossible with her character. Plus she was just down-right WIERD. The next thing that bothered me the most was that some of the new characters were just annoying, and you wanted to strangle them but couldn't. Yes this is a kids movie and is supposed to appeal to kids, but parents got to watch it with their kids, so make it appeal to them too right?

Now for the once positive in the film was that it made me laugh in a few parts, and a somewhat of a good message (but needed to be displayed better). Those were the only things that kept it from being a complete failure.

So all-in-all a defiant kids movie and a 3/10 rating. So make sure you stay tuned on the blog, subscribe to the blog by entering your email! Check out trailers to upcoming movies on the other page. More reviews are coming VERY soon, along with some interesting information on movies and movie stars.
