Sinister REVIEW

Well it is definitely Halloween season, and the "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the horror film, "Sinister." I had the pleasure of seeing it at 10 o'clock last night so let just say I am a little freaked out. In this film though, a true-crime novelist moves into the home of where the victims of his new story died. Here he finds footage of the killings, but he released something he didn't intend to. So, once you have released "Mr. Boogie" though it is already to late.

Well as you know I am not a huge fan of scary/horror films. They scare the living shit out of me. Now before I do get into this review though I do want to apologize in advance for language used in this review. It really is only the best way to describe this film.

So shall we start with the negatives of this horror flick first? Well most scary films are extremely predictable and just so obvious with the scary moments. In "Sinister" you had this as well. You knew what was going to happen. You knew the scary moments and you knew most likely all of the plot right of the bat.

Other than that though it was a really good scary movie. Yeah you knew what was going to happen, but the good thing about it is you don't know when the scary moment is going to happen. The film also kept you scared and just kept everything creepy even though you knew what was going to be creepy. I actually screamed twice within the movie (with all my friends laughing around me of course). I was terrified the whole way through. So I am going to have to give props to the director, Scott Derrickson, and to the writer who is also Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Holy shit can they really fucking creep you out (sorry again). Plus I do want to add they had probably the best ending to a scary movie I have seen. I loved to hate it, because it was just fucking creepy. I went home and I fell asleep yes but I couldn't stop picturing "Mr. Boogie" in the darkness. I also woke up once or twice throughout the night because I couldn't get him out of my head. So props to them for creating probably one of the scariest films I have ever seen. I do also remember this one time my arms went flailing all over the place because I was scared. Now the acting from everyone in this film was just great also. Ethan Hawke pulled off an amazing performance I thought. He was just really good in this film, and it was nice to see him again. It has been awhile since we have seen him in a film. Good job to the rest of the cast as well. Kept the movie creepy but yet enjoyable.

So all-in-all a creepy ass movie that will keep you scared for quite awhile after. I am still scared now,  and I can still scare myself if I think about it and "Mr. Boogie." This film, "Sinister" is going to get a Blu-ray buy worthy rating, but as I hate scary movies I will not be buying it. It will also get a popcorn flick rating, if you and your friends are having a scary movie night, this film will definitely work for that. As a scary movie though, I guess I could give it a must-see rating, but not for professional film standards. A must-see as in for horror films. As for the rating, "Sinister" is going to get a 4/5 rating.

Well thank you for reading this review, and I really hope you did enjoy it. I apologize again for the language, but it really is the best way to describe it. Thanks again and make sure you stay tuned for more . . . coming soon.

Zombieland REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the movie, "Zombieland." In this film a home-bound college student, a master of arms tough guy on a quest to find a Twinkie, and two sisters on there way to an amusement park team up together to travel across a zombie infested America.

Well I had no hopes for this film. Lets just say I thought the whole thing was going to be a joke, gladly I was actually surprised to fine out that I loved this film very much. This film was extremely enjoyable, here are the reasons why. The whole story line was just great. I was engaged in the film the whole time, wanting more and more. All of the characters stories in this film you actually cared about, and the people playing the characters did a great job. This films main cast includes Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. I thought each and every one of them did fantastic. Woody Harrelson really did steal the show though with his performance. Another thing this film had going for itself was that the humor in this film was actually enjoyable. I loved it, the funny parts made me laugh and it wasn't over-the-top funny. "I haven't cried like that since 'Titanic.'" Thought I would slip that in there. I did like the direction of the film, I thought Ruben Fleischer did a good job with it. I like when Jesse's character did one of his rules that it would pop up on the screen with a neat effect. Speaking of effects though I loved the looks of the zombie's. I also enjoyed how they didn't use the generic zombie where they hold there arms out and walk slowly. In this movie they sprint and I thought that made it more realistic (even thought the whole thing really isn't). Now the look of the film I also enjoyed. Cinematographer Micheal Bonvillian, was at the helm of this movie's cinematography and I thought he captured the film in a unique way. So yes in the end I did enjoy this film, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Though I do have some negatives to add to this review of, "Zombieland." Firstly (and mainly) I want to talk about the flow of the movie. I felt like this movie just flowed to quickly. It is about an hour and a half long, but I still think for a movie that it was fast-paced. It is like one thing is happening, but then little break and then WHAM on to the next thing. The ending I really didn't enjoy to much either. It left a lot of unanswered questions and things that could have used a bit of more explaining. I think that was about it though.

So all-in-all for being a somewhat of a horror film, I actually enjoyed it very much. I am going to have to give it a DVD buy worthy rating along with popcorn flick. You and your friends will definitely enjoy this film on a halloween movie night. As for the rating out of five, "Zombieland" will get a 3.5/5 rating.

Well thanks for reading this review of "Zombieland." I am hoping that you enjoyed it and will tune back in for more reviews. Van Helsing REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the film, "Van Helsing." In this movie legendary monster hunter Van Helsing (played by Hugh Jackman) is summoned to Transylvania on a mission. The mission is to stop the evil vampire Dracula and foil his plans.

Well seeing as this movie has a lot of these I am going to start with the negatives of it. Well lets start with the plot and story line eh? First thing to say is, "WOW what a complete mess. The storyline just jumps around and is a complete mess. It is also boring and not at all interesting. In reality it is just creeping and dumb. Stephen Sommers I am sorry to say but your created a poor film here. The scenes are choppy too. Moving onward though I am going to say that the I really hate Kate Beckinsale. She may be good looking and all but nope terrible actress in this film. I would also have to say that really all the acting in this film wasn't the greatest except two actors. It just wasn't the kind that meant anything to me., you know what I mean?  The effects were not that good at all I would have to say, just blah boring. The look of movie too was also annoying because it was always so dark and mysterious (this could also have to do with the direction but Stephen Sommers). It just got confusing and annoying I guess.

Positives that come from this movie? Good make-up on the actors and creating the creatures (well some). Um I would also like to say that Richard Roxburgh did a great job as Count Dracula. There was also Kevin J. O'Conner who played the Igor. I thought he did a good job too. Other than that . . . I can't think of anything. Oh wait I thought the action in the film was pretty well done I guess. Thats all that kept me interested. Actually the score was decent too, by my man Alan Silvestri! He does a good job.

So all-in-all a short review because this film isn't one of the greatest. I was deceived by my sisters when they said this film was amazing. Well the ratings? I honestly wouldn't even give this a last-minute rent worthy, but if you like vampires and werewolf's and fantasy stuff like that you might . . . just might like it. So there is the only way it applies to the last-minute rent worthy rating. On a scale out of five what is it going to get? Well "Van Helsing" I guess can get a 1.5/5 rating.

Well thanks for reading this review, I hope you enjoyed it. Probably not one of my best because I did watch it last week and I remembered hating it GREATLY! Just not sure of every single detail about it. No need to check it out . . . I remember being bored while watching it. Again thanks for reading and make sure you stay tuned for more . . . coming soon.

The Possession REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for a genre of movies that I will review few of "The Possession" which is a scary movie. In this film a young girl makes her father purchase an antique box at a yard sale, not knowing that inside the box lives an ancient evil spirt. The girl's father and ex-wife team up to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

Well hm I might as well get the negatives out of the way in this film even though there are quite a few within this film. Well I want to start with the way the film flowed. It seemed to move really slow most of the time. This wasn't just due to the screenplay, which wasn't really the greatest (seemed kind of blotchy), it was due to the direction of this film. There were scenes where the camera just paneled around something, and when it did that it seemed to take forever. I think the director, Ole Bornedal (perviously done: "Nightwatch") was trying to build the scary moment, but when in reality he was just slowing the movie down more. Then there were some scenes that I feel like it should have showed more and didn't or it just wasn't as scary as it could have been. Then there was actually one thing about the script or story I guess that had bothered me quite a bit. There was this very relevant character to the plot in the whole film, then something happened to him but you never really knew what happened to him. Moving onto how scary was this movie, well it was creepy (more on that later) but I feel like they used to many "jump scares" which in a scary movie I feel like they shouldn't use to many of them. Then there was one person's acting in this film that was just on and off. Jeffrey Dean Morgan played, Clyde (the father), and his acting was really good at some points, but then there was sometimes within this film where I wanted to punch him for being so bad.

Now good things from this scary movie. Well I am going to have to say that this movie is a good creepy scary movie. It does scare you, but in a creeped out sort of way. If you know what I mean? So I do give it some credit for that because scary movies I have been watching lately haven't really creeped me out or scared me except for making me jump. This film though had me freaking out from a minute into the film. I did like how in some scene though that the would just BANG cut to the next! It gave the film a more creepy edge to it. Then the acting by Natasha Calis, was spectacular . . . oh she played Em, the girl who was possessed. I felt like she did a very good job being EXTREMELY creepy in some scene. Ugh she just creeped me out. One last thing I do want to say is that this film does have a good story to it that kept me somewhat interested. Could have been better, but wasn't really a negative (almost).

So all-in-all I think that this is an excellent movie to watch for a scary movie night! Probably want to start with it at the beginning, and then continue on with better ones from their on. So if your having a scary movie night, this would be a great film to pick up at your local rental place! That's it though, thats all I would give it for that. On the scale out of five though . . . I would give "The Possession" a two out of five.

Well thanks for reading this review, I hope you enjoyed it. Sorry haven't been doing reviews and other posts, been so busy with friends leaving for college. Seems like now I am going to have more time to do reviews though . . .  and to watch movies. The Woman in Black REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for Daniel Radcliffe's first performance away from the "Harry Potter" series, "The Woman in Black." In this film a young lawyer travels to a village where he discovers the ghost of a scorned woman who is terrorizing the locals for vengeance.

So lets talk about some negatives that came from this movie shall we? Hm, well don't get me wrong I think Daniel Radcliffe is a good actor and can so a really good job but in this film I feel like he didn't act very well. He didn't seem to give it his all. At some points he did good, when there was an action scene, but otherwise he seemed to just be there and read lines. Then there is the scary parts to this film, well yes this movie did freak the hell out of me but in the end they were just silly scares that got to me (jump scares). I feel like those shouldn't be the basis of a scary movie, and I feel in this movie that they were all I really got scared at. Then at some points I feel like the movie was slow, and this isn't particularly a long movie.

Well now there is some positives that of course came from this film. I thought the screenplay, done by Jane Goldman, was very good indeed. I was interested about the story throughout the whole film, and I felt like it did the story justice in the end. It didn't leave you with any questions. The other thing I did like was that the suspense that leads up to scary parts were very good. It kept you on the back edge of your seat (trying not to look and getting away), and it did it in a well enough fashion. I do also like how "The Woman in Black" was just creepy. The whole film, and the lady was just creepy. It did a good job at keeping you think . . . "What the hell is wrong with this lady, and what the heck is she doing this for?" Like I said with the screenplay earlier they do a great job explaining it. They had also kept true to what they said earlier in the film, which made me enjoy the ending even more. So I thought they did a good job with the ending. Now moving onto the acting of this film. Like I said above I thought at times Daniel Radcliffe could do a good job. Who I loved most in this film though was . . . CiarĂ n Hinds as Mr. Daily. He did an absolute fabulous job in this film I believe, and as I always say, "He made me think he was really truly that character, and that is what makes a good actor."

So all-in-all I am going to have to say that this film would be good for a scary movie night, because trust me after watching this movie for the first time you aren't going to fall asleep easily. It is just creepy. So if your having a scary movie night this film would be a good one to pick up at Redbox, or head to your local movie rental place and give it a shot. I can promise you will get creeped out. So on the scale out of five what am I going to rate this film? Well I can give it a three point five out of five.

Now thanks for reading, I really do appreciate every single view upon my blog here. Make sure you vote in the poll though (in the sidebar). You only have a couple more days to do so before a new one. You can also subscribe by email (in the sidebar as well) so you will be emailed when I update the blog next. Now thank you . . . again for reading. Now make sure you stay tuned . . . for more.

War of the Worlds REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the remaking of a classic story, "War of the Worlds." This review, as you can see above, is for the 2005 film directed by Steven Spielberg. "War of the Worlds" is about how aliens planned along time ago to wipe out our world and now they are. This film follows Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise's character) who is trying to stay alive, and also keep his two children alive with him.

Starting of this review lets talk about the positives that had come from this movie shall we? Well the visual effects were just amazing. They had gotten an Oscar nomination for it so I guess they are REALLY amazing! The sound effects were also great, and not just to my standards though too. Apparently the Academy thought so too. This film stars Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Tim Robbins, and Justin Chatwin. They all did a fabulous job I thought in this movie. Tom Cruise seems to do a good job in every film he is in, so good job. I can see how Dakota is like one of the greatest rising young stars of my generation. She played her part perfectly, Steven Spielberg must taught her a lot making this film. Tim Robbins, I never knew he could play a part like that so well. Just absolutely believable. Then there is Justin Chatwin, to whom I have never heard of, and still to this day never heard of. He did a good job I thought. Hopefully I will see him sometime in the future.

Well now we have got to get to the negatives, because for this film there were quite a few things that had bothered me. The story line is what had really bothered me. Ugh at the end of this movie I was just like, "Nope nope, they better not do what I think they are going to do!" Guess what they did though? They did exactly what they should not have done, TWICE!!! Ugh made me so ridiculously angry because it was a halfway decent film until the end happened and those two things bothered the crap out of me. Then there was how the movie rapped up, and I was like, "Um um um NOPE!" Lets just say (without giving anything away) . . . that it was to simple. Then there was the reason of why did the aliens want to attack us? I never heard in the movie why? There had to be a reason right? Those were really the things that had bothered me, and they were just really major things for each of them.

So all-in-all this film is decent, that is what I will give it. You will enjoy watching it once, but its nothing that your going to be to excited about after. I will give it a "Rent Worthy" rating, which means its only really worth renting. If you ever think about buying it . . . don't. Trust me, you will regret it. The number rating on the scale though, I will have to give this movie a 3 out of 5.

Wel first thing I want to do in my wrap up here is that I want to apologize for the lack of reviews and information in the past weeks. I was on vacation in Norway, and had no time what so ever to do reviews, but I am back and I will be reviewing movies like crazy again. I will also be doing more "Trailer Talks" and more information on the movie industry. I want to say thank you for your continued support here on the blog also. I would like to point out before the end of this post here that the "Trailers for Upcoming Movies" tab above is now gone, and I will be introducing something better SOON! Now make sure you stay tuned for more . . .

Alien REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the first installment in the Alien Anthology, Alien. I am going to give Alien a 7/10 on my scale. Now most people are going to rebel against this and say I should be giving it a 9-10/10. But there are some grips I had about this movie, but all-in-all it was a very good film.

Since I had very few bad things to say about this movie I will start with the negatives and end on a positive note. The main negative (but also a positive in some spots) about this movie in my opinion was how they dragged out scenes. Like in the beginning where they are just showing the empty space shuttle. I mean really, it was super boring and I was considering this movie to be dumb already. Of course though I was corrected later on. It lost a point on that though, and then they used it later on and it lost another point due to that. Then there were just little things that bothered me, very infinitesimal things so a 7/10.

Now for the positives of this very good film. I loved, LOVED the actors and actresses in this film. I thought Sigourney Weaver KILLED as Ellen Ripley. She definitely was made for that part. Ian Holm did a GREAT job with the robot Ash. Everyone I think did a great job. Now for a good positive from the dragging things out. It helped create the suspense needed for the scary parts. Oh and trust me when I watched this with my sister we were both freaking out. I literally strangled my pillow that night. So the film did an amazing job with its suspense and horror section. It was also greatly written and directed by the great Ridley Scott. So thank you for a very good motion picture Ridley. Oh and more more thing I would like to comment on about the film was that Jerry Goldsmith did a great job with the score.

Again though all-in-all a very good film with great acting, but some parts that can get a little long and boring. It gets a well deserved 7/10 on my scale. So it is a definite movie that you will have to pick up on DVD or Blu-Ray to watch one night when you want a sic-fi or horror. A good popcorn flick.

Now make sure you stay tuned in on the blog more reviews will be coming soon, will try and make one  at least once a day. You can see what movie you might want to watch next using the blog here, and when I create a whole bunch of reviews you can just search in the sidebar there and see what I have said about a movie you want to watch.
