What's Eating Gilbert Grape REVIEW

As promised it is time for another review tonight, and the second review is for the 1993 film, What's Eating Gilbert Grape. In this film Gilbert, played by Johnny Depp, has to take care of his special brother, Arnie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. He is also in charge of making sure his obese mother is taken care of. When Becky comes into his life, he becomes irritable about all the responsibilities that he doesn't want to have.

(Applause . . . applause) This movie is seriously just fantastic. I was engaged in the story right from the beginning. The screenplay follows the story and mind of Gilbert Grape who is way more complex than we are led to believe. I love how everything in this story actually has a point to it, and there is no excess things that are pointless. There were a few points in the movie though where the movie drags on a little bit. You want it to pick up its pace but it takes a little bit before it goes onto the next thing. Now the last thing about the story I wanted to mention was the fact that the love story in this movie was good. It wasn't great and it was a little unbelievable, in my eyes it seemed kind of forced into the story. With all that being said you still root for Gilbert and Becky to end up together in the end.

Next I would like to give a HUGE round of applause to Leonardo DiCaprio for an AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING, performance in this film. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a mentally challenge 18 year old kid, and I seriously was shocked by his performance. If it was me I would have given Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar for this performance because he literally blew my mind. He really became his character in this film and he made me super emotional which is just beyond great. Now the chemistry between Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio is fantastic as well. For a moment there you really think they are brothers, they just do a great job together as brothers. Those two main things being said I want to generally say that each and every single cast member in this film does a great job. I could and would not complain about a single person's performance in this beautiful film. A few people who stand out are of course Johnny Depp, Juliette Lewis, Darlene Cates, and Mary Kate Schellhardt.

Now the last thing I would like to mention is the direction of the movie. Before I get into that though I want to mention how great this movie is. Leo's performance is seriously the greatest part of the movie, but when it comes to the direction it is only okay. I mean I love the story and I love the acting in the film, but the way Lasse Hallstroöm does this film could have been better. I just felt like some of the things in this film were way to obvious and I could tell what was happening. Do not get me wrong, still a GREAT movie, but there are always little things that could have been better.

Wrapping up this movie I will say that What's Eating Gilbert Grape is a fantastic film with little flaws. It has an amazing cast with one breakout actor in the film that you would have never expected. For the ratings I will give this movie a buy on Blu-Ray rating because it is one of those movies that is a classic that should be seen by everyone because it is a MUST-SEE film. Sometime in your life you should definitely see this movie. I will also rate this movie as a perfect popcorn movie night film, but it would be even better for a rainy day. Be prepared though it is an emotion draining movie, like you have to be in the mood for it. Now for the rating out of 10 stars I will have to give this film a 9/10 star rating.

Well I hope you have enjoyed this review of What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I highly recommend this movie because it really is very enjoyable. Well I hope to get at least one more review out tonight or tomorrow mooring. So stay tuned for that, but also stay tuned for this week's Trailer of the Week, coming out tomorrow. There is so much to stay tuned for, so stay tuned for more . . .  coming soon.

This is the End REVIEW

As promised the Motion Picture Buff would like to present another review today. This second review is of the 2013 comedy starring James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, This is the End. In this film James Franco is hosting a party that everyone is invited to. While attending the party the end of the world begins, and these comedy lords must learn how to live together and find a way to live in this demon infested world.

Now usually I am not a huge fan of comedy. I hate pointless stupid comedies, but This is the End is not a pointless comedy. This movie was so enjoyable I was laughing the whole way through. Comedies are usually overdone and just literally not funny. In This is the End, the comedy was enjoyable and it actually made me laugh and smile. Normally I hate 50% of the cast in this movie, but actually I did not hate one person in this movie. I enjoyed each one of their performances. It might be because they were making fun of themselves instead of trying to be funny in another way. Each actor/actress in this film is playing themselves instead of a certain character, this makes the film so freaking funny. Micheal Cera plays a complete douché in this film. It makes it funny because when seeing the roles he plays you would never guess that it would be how Micheal Cera acts. I am sure that it isn't how he acts in real life, but it helps the movie be more funny. One last thing about the cast I would like to mention is that they all have amazing chemistry together. I can really see all these guys hanging out in real life, it really works for this movie.

Moving on in this review is the story. The premise behind the movie is great, and the storyline works for a movie of this comedy. I mean sure there are plot holes in the movie and sure it isn't like Oscar worthy, but the plot works for this movie. The nice thing about comedies is that it doesn't have to be a perfect story, it just works for what it is. The other thing I wanted to mention about the story is that I like how it sort of centers around Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogan's relationship. You would never expect it and throughout the whole movie it makes it even funnier.

So there are a few more things about this movie I would like to mention these would include, the cameo's, the music, and the special effects. For starters then . . . the cameo's. In this movie there are a bunch of famous actor/actress's in this film. The main part of the film centers around the six mentioned in the script above. Other than those six there are a few people who really stand out though. I mentioned one above which is Micheal Cera. I absolutely LOVE Emma Watson in this movie. It is hilarious after seeing her play Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films. The last cameo I want to mention is Channing Tatum in this film. I do not want to spoil to much more about Channing Tatum's role in this film, but I will say when you see him . . . you will laugh your ASS off. Next I wanted to mention that the music choices for this movie added to the comedy. Near the end the one song was seriously the GREATEST choice ever! So finally I wanted to mention the special effects in this movie. Lets just say this movie probably didn't have a huge budget for special effects. The special effects were SO fake, but actually in a way it did work for the film. It is hard to explain but the bad speical effects for some reason added something to the movie I just cannot describe.

Now summing up this review I have got to say that this film is HILARIOUS in ever single way. I was not irritated in anyway, which I usually am with comedies. This is the End was for sure the funniest movie of 2013 so far. It is a MUST-SEE film for sure as well. This is the End for surely would be an absolute perfect popcorn movie night film. Need a funny movie to watch some night? This movie works perfectly, and if you have seen it before it still works because it is just that funny. When buying this movie though . . . make sure you buy it on Blu-Ray, it is worth the money. As for the rating, This is the End, deserves a strong 9/10 star rating.

Well I hope you have enjoyed this review of This is the End. It is a good movie and I give my recommendation. Have you been enjoying my blogs so far? Please leave your comments in the comments section below. Thanks again everyone for reading. I promise to continue my reviews. So make sure you stay tuned for more . . . coming soon.

Star Trek: Into Darkness REVIEW

The Motion Picture Buff would like to present a review for the summer blockbuster of 2013, Star Trek: Into Darkness. In this film James T. Kirk, is on a hunt for a man who has declared war on Star Fleet. This hunt lands the crew of the Enterprise on the border of Star Fleet's nemesis.

Let me start off by saying this movie is pretty darn spectacular. It has all the right formulas to a great blockbuster. Not only is this movie a good blockbuster, it is a very enjoyable film. So the first thing I would like to mention is the acting in this film. Everyone involved in this film does a great job. The cast includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch, and others. Each one of these actors do a fantastic job. The chemistry between Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto is perfect.  I love how they bicker back and forth but then when it comes to the emotional stuff they can still pull those scenes off. Now one actor who really stands out in this movie is Benedict Cumberbatch. He does a FANTASTIC job as Khan. The facial expressions he uses when he talks are just great. They help bring a perfect performance and help make the movie WAY more enjoyable. You forget that these people aren't actually these characters and that they are actually other people in this world. Thats what I like to call good acting. Now moving on the action and the way J.J. Abrams does it is perfect. It flows perfectly with the story of this film. Speaking of the story behind this film I would have to say that it is amazing. I was emotionally attached to this film in so many ways. Sure it is an action film, but the film makes you really care about the characters. This film has ups and downs, and there is a point in the film where it gets really emotional and you really feel it. The actors, the story, the direction, it all makes the scene perfect. J.J. Abrams does a great job with the movie . . . he takes Star Trek: Into Darkness in a whole new direction than his first Star Trek film. The name of the film says it, it is a way darker film. The feel of this movie is great too. I love how they took Star Trek up a notch with this movie.

Now even though this movie is very, very good, I have to say that this movie has one flaw. The flaw in this movie would have to be the ending of the film. Here we are in a huge action scene, and then it suddenly ends and that is basically the end of the movie. The movie just comes to an abrupt halt. That would probably be the only bad thing I could mention from this film.

Summing up this review up I would say that this film is pretty darn enjoyable and probably one of the best films to come out during the summer season of 2013. There is only one movie I can think of that I enjoyed more over the summer season. I will review that movie later though. You for sure should buy this movie on Blu-Ray, it is totally worth buying on Blu-Ray. I own it on Blu-Ray and it looks incredible. This movie is also a perfect popcorn movie night film. Make a bowl of popcorn, grab a blanket, and pop in this movie. For the rating out of ten stars I would give Star Trek: Into Darkness a 9/10 stars.

Well I hope you enjoyed this review of the newest Star Trek film. To see my review of the first of the new Star Trek films, CLICK HERE. So make sure you stay tuned for more reviews, I know they haven't been as often as I said, but I still plan on doing them . . . so stay tuned for more coming soon.

Braveheart REVIEW

The Motion Picture Buff would like to present a review for the 1996 Best Picture Winner, Braveheart! This film is about the rebellion of Scotland against England in the 13th Century. William Wallace was the the heart and soul of this rebellion after his secret wife was murdered after she assaulted a King's soldier with whom tried to rape her.

Let me just say first that I absolutely LOVE this movie. It is no doubt one of my favorite films of all time. This movie is before Mel Gibson went insane, and let me just say that he did a fine job with this film. Mel Gibson was in charge of directing and acting in this movie, but yet the movie is just fantastic. Sure the effects and fighting scenes are a little outdated but this movie is old so it is acceptable. While talking about the action sequences I guess I could say that they are pretty darn awesome. I remember the first time I watched this movie and saw all of them I was just so intrigued by them. I loved each and every one of them. The reasoning of why William Wallace fights against the English is just perfect too. I am a big romantic and the fact that William does this all because his wife had been killed is just great. Moving on to the acting . . . all the main actors in the film do a surprisingly fantastic job! On that really stands out to me though is Mel Gibson's performance. You just believe that he is William Wallace. I think Mel Gibson just transformed into him. You can see it in his eyes and just his overall performance, I honestly think he should have at least been nominated for his performance. Next I want to talk about the screenplay/script. I think it works it may be historically inaccurate but most movies based on true events have fudged the truth to an extent. As I am writing it this right now my sister is watching the film and crying. I would have to say that it works because it really captivates people and engrosses them into the film. Another thing great about this movie is the ending really. I just love the ending and since I don't know if you have seen the movie or not I will not spoil it for you. Trust me when I say though that you should enjoy it though.

Now for the bad things about this movie. Now this film being one of my top ten favorites I can't really think of anything bad. But as I will be giving this film a 9/10 there has to be one thing wrong with it. I guess I would say that the movie can drag on just a bit. It is a three hour movie and there are some parts where the movie just seems to take forever. The only bad thing I would say about it.

So summarizing it all up this movie is for sure a GREAT movie. It has everything a great movie should have and more. You will for sure enjoy, "Braveheart" anytime you watch it. It is a popcorn movie night film in case you were wondering. Anytime you need a movie for a night of movies this would be a great pick. I would for sure give it a BUY ON Blu-Ray rating, along with the rating I said earlier a 9/10 rating. It defiantly deserved its five Oscars, and for sure deserved that Oscar for Best Picture.

Well I hope you have enjoyed this review of "Braveheart." Make sure you tune back in for more reviews and movie talk later on. If you would like us on Facebook HERE, that would be great too. Again thanks for reading.

V for Vendetta REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to say one thing, "Remember remember, the fifth of November." Just kidding, I would like to present my review for the motion picture "V for Vendetta." The above quote (if you do not know) is from the film, and let me say that this film is absolutely amazing. This film is about a shadowy freedom fighter known as "V" uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally. For this review though I am going to do things a little differently (maybe from now on) . . .

Now lets talk about the positives of this film first shall we? Well let me just say the script of this film was absolutely beautiful. Everything seemed to just fit right where it should have. The dialogue created by the screenwriters (Andy and Lana Wachowski) was just absolutely brilliant. The character V was just brilliant. He was just so badass. I am glad they told us his whole story. I do want to say now though now that I am on the topic of V, Hugo Weaving (guy who played V) was 100% MADE to be V. Natalie Portman also did a great job as Evey. She definitely outperformed herself! All the acting really in this film was just outstanding. It was a brilliant cast for this movie. Now, I do love when I movie throws the unexpected at you too, so there was part in the end that I really did like how it played out. The whole movie was played out perfectly as I kind of said earlier. The director of this film, James McTeigue, did a great job at delivering us a great film, so thank you. This movie will keep you on your toes from beginning to end, you honestly will not really want it to end. I absolutely loved this film.

Now I only had like one or two minor things to say against this movie. There were some scenes that were a bit confusing, like the beginning. I never really got that part? I do think I had something to do with it, but I never really got or understood the connection between the events? Really thought the only other thing I really had against this movie was that it should have explained more about what had happened to lead this world into the way it was. It did but coulda done better I thought maybe?

So instead of giving my rating away at the beginning, I am going to put it at the end so you can think about what I might rate this movie. I also will no longer be linking my ratings to the hit movie website IMDb. I am going with my own rating system now, instead of out of 10 I will be only going out of 5. Plus I am going to add 0.5 into my system as well. So what is "V for Vendetta"going to get? I am going to rate it of course as a must-see film, and its rating is a 4.5/5. Go look for this movie on Netflix, at your local Walmart, or wherever you get your movies. It is AMAZING!

Well thanks for reading again, you are getting ever more close to becoming a "Motion Picture Buff" too. Make sure you are subscribed by email in the sidebar so you know when I do another review or some important information in the motion picture world. You can see what movie I will be reviewing next possibly HERE if you want. You should also leave a comment below on your thoughts of "V for Vendetta" if you have seen it before. One last thing I want to say is I only changed the way I do reviews now was to make it more me. Thanks for reading, spread the word about the review site here, and stay tuned . . .

My Week with Marilyn REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the motion picture, "My Week with Marilyn." Let me just say that I LOVE this film. It was just outstanding for many of reasons, so I gets the worthy rating of a 9/10. I say with my ratings that with 9-10/10's (some 8's can make it) are defiantly Oscar worthy, and holy crap this movie is/was defiantly that. So lets talk about Marilyn shall we?

Well lets get the stupid little annoyance I had with the film out of the way shall we? Um what was with the love story between Colin and Lucy (Emma Watson's character)? It really had no relevance in this film I feel like. I mean Emma did an amazing job, but he was in love with her and then BAM. Nope that relationship in his head is just over after awhile (sorry about the spoilers there). I will not say anymore though, as not to give anything away. That was my only thing I had to say negative about the film, otherwise . . .

OH MY GOD! Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Julia Ormond, and every single actor/actress in this film did such an AMAZING job. Michelle Williams, in my opinion, was Marilyn. I was just shocked by her performance. I felt like just wow, I thought this whole movie was just real to me. Everyone acting in the film just did an outstanding job. Kenneth was just the best too. Great job everyone. The script was just beautiful. It portrayed Marilyn's life great, and what had happened with the making of this film. It was spectacular. The direction of this film was done great, by a Mr. Simon Curtis. Thanks you Mr. Curtis for making such an excellent film, that I enjoyed every second of. Of course its not just him that makes the movie though. I want to thank everyone who had a part in making this movie. This movie made me think of how I want to be Colin Clark. I want to help make a movie, even if it means being the 3rd Assistant Director, and getting people there coffee. This movie just shows you also the life of a famous person, like Marilyn or Sir Lawrence. It may seem like all fun and games but it really it isn't all that. It does take a lot of work to be a great actor/actress. One more thing to say though. I thought this film would be boring, and I was kind of dreading watching it, but the film defiantly made me love it very much.

Well all-in-all really doesn't sum up this movie. Sure this movie is a "tour-de-force" as some people would like to call it, but it sure is a very good film that portrays great modern actors, acting as great classic actors. It defiantly deserves it's 9/10 rating I gave it. It surely is a "Must-See movie" along with a great popcorn flick.

Well make sure you subscribe by email in the sidebar to know when I update the blog next, if you haven't already done that. Comment below though on your thoughts about "My Week with Marilyn" if you have seen it also if you would like. Now make sure you stay tuned, there will be more reviews coming soon, that can help you become a "Motion Picture Buff" too.

The Avengers REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for Marvel's "The Avengers." Well I am sure you all can guess what I am going to rate this film right? Well I can honestly say it is not a full 10/10 unfortunately (it takes a lot for a movie to be able to do that). It is thought a 9/10 FOR SURE!!! If I could do 9.5/10 I would but I cannot so on we go with the review, with one tiny negative about the movie.

Well we should get this darn negative out the way right away. The only thing that bothered me about this film was the fact that it starts out that Iron Man and Captian America agree and like each other and work together for a little bit, but then they are suddenly arguing? I just don't get that I guess. (Oh and also I am not a huge fan of Chris Evans as Captian America but he did okay).

OTHERWISE this film is just bloody freaking epic. Oh it made me laugh, cry, gave my goosebumps, and much MUCH more. I don't want to give anything away to anyone (very few people) who hasn't seen it, so I am going to not try and talk to much about this film. Though I do want to talk about the directing, acting, plot, and just the awesomeness that came from this film. Directing: Joss Whedon was defiantly the man for the job, 1000 freaking percent. The camera angles were always just perfect, and I love how he made every Avenger relevant, even Black Widow and Hawkeye. Acting: well Robert Downey Jr. always does his absolute best as Iron Man (my favorite). I always wonder if that is how he is somewhat in real life? Mark Ruffalo is made to be the Hulk. You might have heard people say this before, but I am going to say it anyway, this movie made me LOVE the Hulk. I hated him before this, but now he is one of my favorite superhero's. Of course though everyone else did a GREAT job. The plot of this film was just superb. Joss Whedon you have defiantly outdone yourself this year with this film. You are now on my list of directors to watch out for. This movie was just a bad-ass movie all together. I love this movie so much, well probably obvious because I have seen it four times now. Just everything, and mostly the last like 20-30 minutes. Not going to give anything away though so I am shutting my words up.

All-in-all a very, VERY good motion picture that I absolutely love, but can't give it my best rating because I said to myself, even if there is one little thing I do not like about it I have to bump it down one rating, which sucks for this film because I love it so much. So a well deserve popcorn flick rating along with a 9/10. A MUST SEE!!!
