The Big Wedding REVIEW

Well it is time for another review even though it is a little late this time. Today's review is for the 2013 romantic comedy, The Big Wedding. In this movie a long-time divorced couple must act like they are still married to try and impress there foster kid's real mother right before his wedding day. As you can expect there are many things going on right before the wedding and it all comes crashing into this one weekend. Secrets are revealed, trusts are broken, and love is in the air.

For as corny and ridiculous this movie is, I will have to start off by saying that I actually did enjoy this movie quite a bit. Sure there are a few things I would change and like to have happened differently, but overall I really did enjoy this movie A LOT! What about it did I enjoy? Well the characters really, and everyone who portrayed them. The couple that are getting married are played by Amanda Seyfried and Ben Barnes and they had decent chemistry. I mean you believed it but there was nothing special. I like how they eventually end up doing there wedding, but I do not want to give any spoilers. I will have to say that picking my favorite couple in this film it would have to be between Robert DeNiro and Susan Sarandon. They just seemed to me, the most believable in this entire movie. They had some great chemistry and I loved to see them bicker back and forth between each other. Now I could go on all day about the characters and the actors playing them. They main this I want to convey is that throughout the movie I actually cared about the characters. I wanted to know more about them and cared what happened to them.

This I guess would have to do with the story of the movie though as well. Justin Zachman wrote and directed this movie and I think he did a great job with it. He made it enjoyable and just a feel good romantic comedy. Sure it is not prefect, but hey sometimes I just want a movie where I can sit down and enjoy it. Not every movie has to be perfect. Now what about the script is not perfect? Well for starters I would say that is is kind of predictable. In the beginning of the movie I knew these couple things were going to happen and needless to say they did happen and I was right. So that could have been improved. The other thing I wanted to mention is that this has all been done before. What I mean by that is that there is nothing special about this movie that really stands out from the movie. We have seen all these elements in other romantic comedies before, and I am sure we will see them again. So yeah that could have been worked on, but again this movie was still pretty enjoyable. It has been awhile since I have torn a movie apart because I have been watching some decent ones lately, but wait till my next review, I have a movie to rip apart.

To warp up this review I want to say just a couple things. This movie is enjoyable, not special. I would recommend only a renting this movie, as what I did, because that is really all it is worth. It works for a movie rental night with either your girlfriend, maybe even your family (just not younger kids). I will also say this movie works for a rainy day. Its not something you are like, "OH, I want to watch The Big Wedding." It just isn't a waste of time if you end up watching it, and is in no way a must-see movie. For the rating out of 10 stars I will give, The Big Wedding, a 6/10 star rating.

Now You See Me REVIEW

Well the Motion Picture Buff would like to present a review for the film Now You See Me. This film is about four magician/illusionists that are brought together by one mystery master magicians. What they do includes robbing banks, stealing money, and other highly illegal. An FBI agent is after them and so the panic ensues.

So lets think of some negatives of this film. I would have to say the love story aspect in this movie is just completely unnecessary. The movie already had enough to it with all the plot twists (which I will talk about later) and the love story just made it a little to much. The chemistry between Mark Ruffalo and Mélanie Laurent was just very poor and didn't seem believable at all. It just seemed to be intrusive to the plot of the film. One other thing I wanted to mention is that this movie has to many twists. Do not get me wrong I love twists in movies, but not more than one or two. Now You See Me is filled with twist after twist. It becomes annoying because as soon as you think one thing it changes to be something else, but guess what it changes again.

Lets talk about the positives from this film. Well firstly I want to mention that all of the actor and actresses in this film. Now You See Me includes the cast of Jessie Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fischer, Dave Franco, and lots others. They all do a fantastic job. I love each one of the four horsemen's, the characters are very well played out and very enjoyable. Each one of the actors do a great job. Now the plot of this movie is also very well. I really enjoyed this story, I was hooked right from the opening sequence. The plot flows well and keeps you hooked all the way through. There may be quite a few plot twist but it is still good. This story also has a good meaning behind it to. There is a reason behind why the four horsemen do what they do, and the reason makes sense and is very good. I would also like to mention the magic in the film. Some of the tricks were pretty darn cool.

Wrapping this review up I will say that this movie is a darn good time. You should enjoy it. Sure there are a few things bad with it, but it doesn't detract from how good and enjoyable this movie is. I would for sure give this movie a "Buy on Blu-Ray" rating. This movie would also be prefect for a popcorn movie night, you will surely enjoy cuddling up one night under a blanket with a bowl of popcorn and a drink. Now out of 10 stars I will give it a 8/10 rating.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me REVIEW

"I am back baby!" Here is the "Motion Picture Buff's" second review of the "Austin Powers" series, "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me." In this film Dr. Evil has made another legendary return, but this time he has a "Mini Me" as an accomplice. Dr. Evil's new plan is to steal Austin Powers mojo, which drives him and makes his "shaggless."

So negatives to start off again. Well I think again the only thing to say here is that the film has complete and utterly stupid humor.

Other than that though this film is just again hilarious. Austin Powers gets us again with a comedy that we will all enjoy. Their is dumb comedy and then their is "Austin Powers." Mike Myers and Micheal McCullers wrote the screenplay for this film and the story is just as funny and just as engaging. Like the first Austin Powers film, you are laughing from beginning to end. The jokes are relatable and funny. The dialogue between the characters makes you laugh, and most of all the action is just hilarious. Good job at creating yet another hilarious movie. Mike Myers of course returns as Austin Powers and Dr. Evil, but their is a new character introduced in this film, Fat Bastard. He impresses you with all the characters he does become, because sometimes it is hard to tell that he plays all three of them. Heather Graham is the next Power's girl, and she really is a great Power's girl. I found her funny and the chemistry between her and Mike was really good. Robert Wagner, Seth Green, Verne Troyer, Rob Lowe, and more are in this film. They all help create a funny cast that have amazing chemistry together to make a great comedic film. Verne is great as Mini Me. Jay Roach returns yet again as director for the "Austin Powers" film, and he does just as great as before. This is a comedy you won't soon forget.

So all-in-all a great comedy that again goes down as one of my favorite comedies. For the ratings I will give it again a DVD buy worthy rating. It gets the popcorn rating again, along with family night flick as long as kids are at least older than 12. It will get a must-see rating again. As for the rating because of the stupid humor I will have to "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" a 3.5/5 rating.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery REVIEW

Here comes the "Motion Picture Buff's" first review in the "Austin Powers" series, "Austin Powers International Man of Mystery." In this film a 1960's hippie super spy is frozen to be there when Dr. Evil returns. When Dr. Evil returns Austin Powers is awoken and he must adjust to the new lifestyle, try and defeat Dr. Evil, along with getting the girl.

Well negatives shall we start with? Well yes this movie is hilarious but its that stupid kind of funny. I mean more on this later, but the only negative is that it is just the dumb funny.

In this film though the dumb funny works too. So the positives right? Yes the dumb funny can be annoying but in all reality the dumb funny is also HILARIOUS. In this film it just works. I like how they make fun of what movies always do too. Just helps add to the humor. Mike Myers wrote this film and I have to say that he does a good job at making all of us laugh. He jokes you get, they are humorous, and they will have you laughing all the way till the end. It has pointless humor, but Mike does it in a good way. Mike Myers also stars as Austin Powers and Dr. Evil. I believe that helps with the humor, and he plays both roles perfectly as well. Elizabeth Hurley, Seth Green, Robert Wagner, and others are in this movie. Everyone helps make the film even more funny. I just loved it. Whenever I am in a bad mood, these films always cheer me up. Jay Roach is director of this film and he has a way with this film that just helps add to the humor. The score and theme of Austin Powers is phenomenal and if you have seen this film you will remember it forever. Just has that crazy Austin groove to it. I want to say props to the costume and make-up department too because you really are put into the 1960's at point and they did it so well.

So all-in-all a freaking hilarious film that will keep you laughing. I will give it a DVD buy worthy rating. No need to go get it on Blu-ray. I will give it the popcorn flick rating along with family night film, just make sure your kids are at least 12 years or older. It is a classic to me because I grew up with these movies so yes a must-see film rating "Austin Powers" is going to get. As for the rating I can only give "Austin Powers International Man of Mystery" a 3.5/5 rating. This does not stop it from being one of the funniest comedies out there.

Beetlejuice REVIEW

In the Halloween spirit the "Motion Picture Buff" would like to review a Halloween classic, "Beetlejuice." In this film a couple of newly made ghosts hire a "bio-exorcist" to help get ride of the obnoxious new family that moved in to their house.

Shall I begin with the positives that come from this film? Well lets begin with the acting in this film. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis were the two newly made ghosts in this film and I thought these two had amazing chemistry together. They really seemed like the perfect couple and I really enjoyed their characters. Oh and I never realized how awesome Alec Baldwin used to look. Jeffery Jones, Catherine O'Hara, and Winona Ryder (as a teenager) were the Deetz family that moved into the house. These three did a good job, but Winona stood out the most. I really enjoyed her performance in this film. Moving on I thought the story and screenplay of this movie was actually very well done. The whole story seemed to just work, and it was very interesting. It was funny when it needed to be, and it was the good funny that actually made you laugh and remember why you were laughing which makes you laugh again. Director Tim Burton did an excellent job with this film . . . right up until the end (more on that later though). The music in the film isn't bad either, it is pretty darn enjoyable. As a movie as a whole though, I will have to say it is extremely enjoyable and it keeps you watching. Originally I wasn't going to watch it all the way through, I kept telling myself, "One more commercial and then I will go do my homework." Instead though I watched the entire movie, and ended up doing my homework late into the night. I hate to love how a movie can do that to me.

So what are the negatives of this film? Well the last maybe 15-25 minutes of the film were completely timburtonized. The word timburtonized means that it is completely over-the-top weird and just down right creepy and dumb. In this film the that is what you endure for the last half-an-hour about. I just found it annoying. Then the only other thing was Micheal Keaton's performance as the character Beetlejuice. It was completely over-the-top and just down right annoying.

So all-in-all a extremely good Halloween flick that you and your family or friends should enjoy. I can see why it is a classic. For the rating I will give it a must-see rating along with a popcorn flick; which includes for a family-night. It is probably Blu-ray buy worthy but you can probably pick it up on DVD too. As for the rating out of five, "Beetlejuice" is going to receive a 4/5 rating.

Bridesmaids REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the comedic film "Bridesmaids." In this film a competition arises between the maid of honor in a wedding and a bridesmaid to see who is the best friend. During the war the friendship is threatened along with the maid of honor's sanity.

Well lets start with the negatives first shall we? Well the only thing I guess I could say is that there is one part of the movie that is just extremely predictable. You can probably see it coming from a mile away its that obvious.

Other than that we can move onto the positives. Here comes another great movie to add to the list. First thing I guess I am going to say is that this movie is just hilarious. It is just the greatest humor I have seen in a long time . . . and it defiantly is going to hit my list at one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The script just flows perfectly, has amazing dialogue, and is just the perfect kind of funny but yet heartwarming when it needs to be. It might be extremely raunchy in some spot but it is just great humor. Kristen Wigg and Annie Mumolo wrote the screenplay for this film and they definitely deserved that Oscar nomination. The music used in this song just added more humor to the already humorous scenes. They picked the perfect songs for the scenes. Now I the main thing I really want to touch on here is thought the acting that went along with the screenplay! HOLY SHIT (pardon) these women can act. Kristen Wigg, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, and Rose Bryne all play the "Bridesmaids." They all were perfect for their roles and they all had such incredible chemistry together. For sure one of the funniest groups of cast members I have seen.  I am 100% certain that they couldn't find anyone better to play any of those roles. I of course have to touch on Melissa's nomination for an Oscar for her performance in this film. HOLY SHIT (sorry again) you can play one crazy awesome hilarious chick. I loved you in this film Melissa, you were definitely my favorite character. Of course there is still some more amazing cast in this film and they all do a great job at being extremely humorous too. Rebecca Hall, John Hamm, Chris O'Dowd, Matt Lucas, Micheal Hitchcock, Jill Clayburgh, and of course more. Everyone involved in this film made and incredibly hilarious film that cheers me up anytime.

So all-in-all a GREAT comedy film. Good comedic films are hard to come by when it comes to me. I hate over the top and ridiculous funny, but this film made the cut and was terrific. So I am going to give "Bridesmaids" a Blu-ray buy worthy or DVD. This is one of those films you don't need to buy on Blu-ray because it is just not necessary. It is a must-see film . . . if you are over at least 15-16. I will give it a popcorn rating too because it is a great movie to watch with friends some night. As for the rating out of five, "Bridesmaids" will get a glorious 5/5 rating. That freaking funny!

Star Trek (2009) REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the reboot of a well-known franchise, "Star Trek." In this film James T. Krik is trying to live up to his father's legend but Mr. Spock is jeopardizing it while a vengeful Romulan creates black holes to destroy the Federation.

Well shall we talk about the positives first of this film? I am going to say that this is one excellent sic-fi movie. The acting within this film is just great. Chris Pine is really a great James T. Krik, and Zachary Quinto is a great new Spock. The two do an amazing job with their roles, and the two have amazing chemistry together. Bruce Greenwood, Zoë Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Eric Bana, and others are in this film. They all seem to do a great job too. J. J. Abrahams is at the helm of directing this film and I think he did a fantastic job with it. The action and feel of this movie was great. Speaking of the action I thought he did a good job with it to, it kept you intrigued. You were hooked right from the beginning of the film. The screenplay in this film I also thought was pretty good. The dialogue in it was found to be the naturalistic type of dialogue that is hard to find in some movies. Then the visuals of this movie were just absolutely incredible. You were just blown away with some of the scenes and how they really pulled it off with there visuals for the scenes they had. Oh and I do want to mention the score. Holy buckets, Micheal Giacchino, knows how to create a good score for a sci-fi! I absolutely loved it and I am going to have to say that it is a must purchase. When it comes down to it, what really makes this film great is that it is an amazing reboot of a series that some thought to be lost forever. It is a very good film and it really introduces a classic franchise to a new generation, and it did it in the best possible way I believe.

Of course I do have some negative things to say about the film though. First off I feel like this film was all setup. I mean yes sure some things did happen, but I felt like this entire film was just to reestablish the franchise. Its more narrative than it is about a challenge. I feel like they tired to hard to make sure they left it for another one, knowing that this one will do great (which it did). The other thing I did want to mention was that this film could be a bit confusing at times. It does explain it at some point but later on in the film. There were some irregularities too though that I noticed. I do believe that was all I remembered though.

So all-in-all "Star Trek" is a great reboot to a classic tale. It will keep you engaged the whole time, and you are up for a ride of a lifetime. This film will get a must-see rating along with Blu-ray buy worthy. I will also say it is definitely a popcorn flick. As for the rating out of five, "Star Trek" is going to be receiving a 4/5 rating.

Despicable Me REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the kids film, "Despicable Me." In this film a criminal mastermind, Gru, uses orphan girls to help in his attempt to steal a "shrink-ray" from yet another criminal mastermind. He does find that their love has changed him though . . . for the better.

Lets begin with the positives shall we? Well Gru is voiced by Steve Carell and I think they could have found no one better for the job. He just fits the character extremely well. Russell Brand and Jason Segel are also in this film and I think they are great for their characters as well. I do also enjoy Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Kate Fisher as the orphan girls. Perfect job finding the right voices for the film! The characters you care the most about are the orphan girls and Gru, but who you are going to love the most is "the minions." The little yellowish creatures that you can see in the poster above. They are the main comedic relief in this film, and what I enjoyed most about this film. The minions are what also keep the parents enjoying the film along with the kids. It is great when a kids movie can bring enjoyment to the children and the parents or the older kids that have to sit and watch it with them. The film has a good message to it which is love and family. I think the directors of this movies, Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, did a good job with a great kids film. I believe it must be hard to make a good kids film that parents and children enjoy, but they did it just perfectly. This movie also just looks cool, you know what I mean? It has a good look to it. The animation I guess is what I am trying to get at is just visually great.

Negatives though that I will have to give it? This being a professional (in a way) review I have to say that the plot is jumpy and seems to be rushed. It is all that inventive (if you know what I mean) either. The action that is involved in this film is short and just over-the-top. Not at all that interesting also.

So all-in-all what is this film deserve? Well a GREAT kids film and a good family film for everyone to enjoy! It will get a popcorn night rating along with a DVD buy-worthy rating. You and your kids will want to watch it again sometime. As for the rating out of five, "Despicable Me" will get a well deserved 3.5/5 rating.

Grown Ups REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the motion picture, "Grown Ups." In this film five former friends and teammates get back together on the fourth of July weekend, after finding out that their old middle school basketball coach died.

Well lets talk about the positives first that come from this Adam Sandler film. Well lets just say it had some heart to it. It had a good message to display to people, and it did a decent-ish job displaying it. Not only did it have heart it had some good laughs too.  Now usually I hate Adam Sandler's more recent films, but I thought this one to be somewhat funny. It wasn't over the top stupidity, like his films usually are now a days. I did think that the acting from each person was decent well, they were believable. Maybe thats because the actor/actresses in this film are always playing funny roles.

Now this is an Adam Sandler film so of course there is going to be negatives that I have to speak. First of all when I said that this movie was funny, I wasn't saying the whole film was. There was some scenes in this film that were just a little to far over the top. Ugh, what should I expect though right? It's just irritating some of the scenes they add in there that they think is funny, when in reality they are just weird and completely unnecessary. When I said all the acting was good I did forget to say except a few. One really in general. I have never liked Rob Schneider as an actor. He performances are always the same and they are always annoying. The flow of the movie I do want to mention. What I have to say is that I thought the whole film just seemed rushed. It all flowed along really quickly and just didn't seem natural. That being said the dialogue in some spots of the film also did have that naturalistic feel to it.


So all-in-all I think "Grown Ups" could be a decent film to rent one day/night to watch with a group of friends. Which means yes it is a popcorn flick. Now originally I was going to give "Grown Ups" a 3/5 rating, but after some serious thought and such I am going to have to give it a 2.5/5 rating.

Looney Tunes: Back in Action REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for "Looney Tunes: Back in Action." In this film "The Looney Tunes" go in search for a man's father, and for the legendary diamond, the blue monkey.

Well hm how can I really describe the negatives of this film. Well the direction and just well lets say this movie really doesn't appeal to the critic's eye. The plot of this film is rushed and just moves along at what I think is to fast of pace. One thing is happening and before you know it another thing is going on already. It is extremely predictable and corny. Next, I really do not like Jenna Elfman in this film. I founded her performance and her character just annoying.

After all that though the film is a fun and goofy ride that you will enjoy regardless your age. I loved in this film the classic "Looney Tunes" references. The film made me fall in love with the characters I fell in love with when I was a kid. A serious critic part to this film is that the acting required from Brennan Fraser and Steve Martin was great! Steve Martin can really play a creepy basterd. Back to why I loved this film, which is because it made fun of the things movies do all the time. The characters in the film made fun of what they were going or what they were doing, when it is found in loads of movies made. Like when you know the two main characters are going to fall in love. I just loved that. I made the movie more enjoyable and gave it a reason to be funny. No matter how stupid and pointless this movie was it still was an enjoyable film, even though I am 18 years old.

So all-in-all I am going to say it is a kids film for the whole family to enjoy one night. I realize this wasn't the best review, but sometimes there is a movie that roles around that you just have to sit back and enjoy. This movie made itself that. So yes it is DVD buy worthy, and as for the rating, "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" will get a 3/5 rating.

Iron Man REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the motion picture, "Iron Man" starring Robert Downey Jr. In this film legendary weapons specialist and inventor, Tony Stark, is threatened with his life. He builds an armored iron suit in a cave to escape. After that he decides to use its technology to fight against evil.

Well lets get the long list of positives out of the way right? Ha well I want to say right now that Robert Downey Jr. was literally a perfect match for Tony Stark. I can not imagine anyone playing that character any better than him. Just an outstanding performance there. I did love the performance by Gwyneth Paltrow. She did a pretty good job. I do want to move onto the story line and the screenplay which I thought was amazing. This story is just a great opening to a great superhero movie. It keeps you interested and just wanting more which I love in a script. I did also think that the humor in this movie was very well done, which is a big deal because I think movies usually do a bad job with humor.  The music/score of the film was decent so I thought I would mention it. I thought it did a good job with adding something to the film. The director of this film was Jon Favreau, and let me just say that he did an amazing job with this story and with the way he presented the film. The angle of the cameras and just everything was great. Jon Favreau also did a good job with the action scenes. I thought those were well done. I do like how he was in the film too, I thought he did a good job as Tony's security guard. The special effects of this film are also something to comment on as they did get nominated for an Oscar. I never even noticed it throughout the entire film which is the best kind of special effects.

Moving onwards to the negatives. Well for acting I did not like Terrace Howard and Jeff Bridges in this film. I just feel like they didn't fit there parts very well. Then there is the end battle which I thought was WAY to rushed. Like HUGE HUGE build up throughout the film and then like a three minute end battle. I always find that annoying. The movie was running on two hours but that doesn't mean cut into the big battle.

So all-in-all what is "Iron Man" going to get? Well it is a great beginning film to what could be a great franchise for a superhero. It will get a Blu-Ray buy-worthy rating along with it being a great popcorn flick. This film will even get a 100% deserved must-see film. It is a really good superhero movie . . . which are rare. As for the rating out of five, "Iron Man" deserves a 4/5 rating.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present the sixth installment in the reviews for the Harry Potter films, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." At Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts everything has changed. Auror's are guarding the school and Professor Dumbledore is frequently gone. In Harry's potion class though Harry finds a book marked, "This is the property of the Half-Blood Prince." Harry also searches into Lord Voldemort's past to find a weakness of the dark lord.

Well negatives of this "Harry Potter" film? Hm actually there aren't to many . . . one of them being this movie is just a little slow. There are just some scenes that need a little more edge to them, and your sitting there wondering when something exciting is going to happen. The little bit of action in this movie to is just short . . . the action scenes (like Quidditch scenes) seemed rushed. Could be due to fact that this is the second longest movie, and they had to give a lot of information in this film to set up the finals but still. Last thing to mention is that this "Harry Potter film" seems to move away from a tone that we thought the series was on track with. Nothing major though.

We now move onto the positives of the "Harry Potter" film. Well this is another one of my favorites and I have great reasons why. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint 100% give there greatest performance to date. In this movie you can see how much they have grown as actors, along with the other teenage actors that have grown up with the films, like Tom Felton (who really shines in this film). The adult cast too in this film really shines. Alan Rickman is just a GREAT Professor Snape. Then there is Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix, who was BORN to play this part. There is more but I could go on forever here. One other actor though I have to mention is Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn! He fit the part perfectly and he really became Horace. I loved him in this film. Now again I touch on something I wouldn't in a review . . . cinematography. I loved the look and feel of this film, it just helped create a better experience. Director David Yates is also to thank for that . . . and in this film I do begin to think he might be the right guy for the rest of Harry Potter. Steve Kloves returns again (thankfully to save Harry Potter) to write the screenplay which I have to say I love. He did a great job, and I love how he made some humor into this film (but this also helps with the unfortunate thing above). In my "Order of the Phoenix" review I forgot to mention the music which for these two films was helmed by Nicholas Hooper. I liked the "Order of the Phoenix" one better, but this one is really good too. He brought something to both films that fit the tone of each VERY well. Thank you Nick Hooper, they are of course must-buy scores! I have them both in my collection.

So all-in-all this is a great addition to the "Harry Potter" franchise. It is actually a good kids film even though the last two weren't actually, this is another reason why I said a negative when saying this film lost that tone of darkness. It is of course a must-see film along with a Blu-Ray buy-worthy. "Half-Blood Prince" will also get a popcorn flick rating. As for its review out of five what will it get? Well, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" get a 4/5 rating.

Over the Hedge REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present another review off the track of the "Harry Potter" series reviews, a review for "Over the Hedge." In this film a raccoon fools a family of forest creatures into helping him repay a debt of human food. They invade the new suburban neighborhood that popped up while they were hibernating for the winter. Panic ensues and in the end it leaves a good message.

Well lets start with the positives that come from "Over the Hedge." Well firstly the entire cast that voices this characters in this film are great. They definitely did a good job picking the correct characters here. Steve Carell, Wanda Sykes, Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, William Shatner, Nick Nolte, and Thomas Haden Church all are fantastic. The the storyline of this film follows a great tone and keeps you well interested the whole way through. I loved how they poked fun at humans since the main of this film is about the animals life. The messages within this film are great too for little ones. They get to watch an enjoyable movie, and yet it sends them off with the right message. The directors of this film did great, keeping every detail of the film important. The animation of the film just looked great and I loved it. Then there was the humor in this film . . . usually humor is a hard thing to get by on me. Well I thought this movie was hilarious. It did a great job at giving me some laughs, and I remember as a kid I laughed. So this movie is great for a babysitter to have when babysitting some kids.

Negatives that come from "Over the Hedge." Well I have to say there is just TOO much funny is spots where is needs to be serious. The character Hammy was just over the top funny, and in the end could be enjoyable but got annoying to how much they over-used him for funny. The last thing I want to mention here is that the movie felt really rushed. I realize its a kids movie but its not even an hour an a half long. I just feel like that is too short to be a feature film, don't you agree? It just seemed to keep moving and moving with and moved from one point STRAIGHT to the next.

So all-in-all what did I think of this film? Well its definitely a DVD buy-worthy. You and your kids will enjoy it more than once. Good family night film, and you guessed it . . . a kids film. Not a must-see though. On the scale out of five, "Over the Hedge" will get a three point five out of five.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present the first part in his eight part reviews of the Harry Potter series. So "let the magic begin" with the review of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Well (as most of you probably know) this film is about a young boy who discovers he is a wizard, and that somehow when he was just a baby he had defeated the darkest wizard of all time. Harry Potter learns that he is also accepted into "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" and there he learns and proves how great of wizard/human being he is.

Well lets start out with the negatives that came from this movie. Before I get into them though I do want to say that I am going to try and do my best with the professional reviews here . . . I am a HUGE fan of the series. Well a negative I am going to have to say that this movie can be a bit slow and extremely predictable at times. What I mean by this is that the story just moves along slowly, the movie most likely could have been shorter (but more to come later). What I mean by predictable is that it really isn't surprising what happens at all. You have seen this in other movies before this one came out.

Otherwise I would have to say I loved everything else. They choose the prefect cast for this film I thought. All of the young kid actors in this film did amazing. For directing kid actors/actresses, director Chris Columbus, did a fantastic job. He also had to direct the well known actor/actresses that were included in the older parts of the cast. All of the acting performances in this film were great. Some of the more famous (older) cast in this film include: Richard Harris, Maggie Smith, Warwick Davis, and Richard Griffiths. Of course there is more, but I thought I would mention a few. The story line in this film (expect for things mentioned above) was good. I thought it did a really great job setting up the beginning of what will become a GREAT franchise. Oh course I have to talk about the look of this movie . . . which is incredible. Stuart Craig was in charge of "Set Direction" and he did a GREAT JOB! Everything just looks authentic and SO real. Then we move onto the wonderful score created by none other than the greatest composer of all time, John Williams. GOD, I swear he knows how to compose a film. I would have to say that you have to make sure you purchase this score because I sure did and I LOVE it! He just adds to the movie in so many ways that you never thought was possible. What I really have to say as a positive is that I was a perfect book-to-film adaption for the first book in a franchise, and it began something that no one ever thought would become as big as it is today! It really is the perfect beginning for a franchise and I could have never imagined it any other way.

So all-in-all what is "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" going to get on my ratings? Well for starters it is 100% a "must-see film" because it is defiantly a classic that nearly anyone will enjoy. It has also become a huge phenomenon that had consumed the world. It gets a "buy on Blu-Ray" rating and it is a good popcorn flick for one night. On the scale out of five what will this film get? "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" will get a four point five out of five.

The Lorax REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the animated film "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" brought to you by the creators of "Despicable Me." In this film a 12-year-old boy named, Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) searches for one thing that will get him the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover first why this thing has disappeared from the town's midsts. He must hear the story of the Lorax.

Well hm, I think in this review I should start with the positives since this movie was absolutely full of them. Well the voices for the characters were just great. I mean everyone who voiced there character, made it their own character. Danny DeVito as the Lorax was great, he had an excellent voice for him. Then Ed Helms as The Once-ler was magnificent. Zac Efron, Taylor Swift (who I usually don't like AT ALL!!!), Betty White, and Rob Riggle all did a great job! They made their characters them, which I absolutely love. The messages in this film I want to talk about too! Oh they were great for kids to learn about, but what makes it greater is that the parents watching it with them (along with us young adults watching it too) it gives them a wake-up call to reality! That this is what we are doing, that this is what our life is like now. Thats what I loved about it. This movie didn't just have one message to it, which I am usually not a huge fan of to many messages in a film. In this movie though they made each one relevant and displayed them in a very good way. Now I didn't know this movie was supposed to be a musical at all, but let me just say that I am so definitely purchasing the soundtrack to this film. I think that my favorite song would have to be either the end song, "Let It Grow" or I would also pick, "How Bad Can I Be?" I just loved the songs within this film, all of the songs were so catchy. I was humming and singing to one yesterday with a friend . . . that catchy. In "The Lorax" I also really loved the story line. I thought it flowed really good, I loved the story that they told us. I really enjoyed this movie. One more thing to add is that this film isn't just a kids film to me, I think it does a really good job at making adults enjoy the movie as well as the kids. Which makes a really good kids film, so parents/babysitters will enjoy it too.

Now I only had two really negative things to say about this film. First thing was that the direction in some of the scene's was a little iffy, not horrible but just seemed a little bit unnecessary in some spots. Then the other thing that had bothered me was the ending. I felt like it was a wee bit rushed, but other than that I really have no other negatives to it.

So all-in-all this is a great kids film that adults can enjoy too on their own. I am going to have to say that it really is a must-see film, and probably one of my favorite animated films. Go ahead when you are at Wal-Mart and buy it on Blu-Ray. I can promise you shouldn't regret it. So on the scale out of five what am I going to give this film? Hm, well its going to receive a four out of five. Now go check out "The Lorax."

Top Gun REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for a film in memory of Tony Scott's passing. I will be reviewing one of his most known films, "Top Gun." In this film the macho students of an elite flying school for advanced US pilots compete to become the best in the class, and one, Maverick romances the teacher.

Lets get rid of the negatives at first shall we? Well there was some really cheesy lines within this film I thought. Some lines that were just a little to cheesy for the serious tone of this film. Then there was that in some spots I thought that this movie was moving a little slowly. I felt like some scenes didn't really need to be in there. I will also say that there was a predictability factor within this film. I was watching this film with a friend of mine, and we were both guessing what was going to happen. Most of the time we were right. The last thing I would like to say is that they needed to do a little better explaining some scenes.

Now that we got that out of the way, all I can really say about this film is that it was very good. Tom Cruise excels in this film, and I can see why this was the film that had kick-started his career. Val Kilmer in this film was also great. He could really make me hate him in this film (well his character) which tells me he was doing a great job. Anthony Edwards as Goose was also just suburb. He played his part with perfection. Of course I have to get to Tony Scott's direction in this film, which I will have to say I enjoyed. There were a lot of shots of just the planes flying in the air, but he did a good job with incorporating it just right with the talking and action that was going on. Speaking of the shots with the planes in the air, flying around. Well let me just say I believe they were real right? I hope they were, and even if they weren't they did an amazing job with them. I did love hearing where all the famous quotes I have been saying for years come from. Quotes like, "I feel the need for speed." Those lines I really liked, well because I knew them for years and now I know where they came from. I also loved the songs within this film. Wow I never knew how much this movie actually brought to our lives today. Some of those songs people frequently listen to toady. As for the plot of this film, I thought it made sense and was very enjoyable. It all seemed to connect together, and the dialogue was good (of course except for things said above).

So all-in-all "Top Gun" is a very enjoyable film that anyone would really enjoy. I would recommend purchasing this film on DVD. No need to dish out the cash for the Blu-Ray version, but I am going to have to say it really is a "must-see" film because it is a classic film. People have been telling me that for years, and now that I have seen it I agree. As for the rating out of five, I will give "Top Gun" a three point five out of five rating. It was just a movie you will enjoy watching, that simple.

Friends With Kids REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to finally present another review for the motion picture, "Friends With Kids" which stars John Hamm, Kristen Wigg, and many others. This film is about the difficult parts of marriage with kids. It addresses what some believe that kids can ruin your happiness and love for the one you wanted to spend your whole life with.

For this review lets start out with the negatives that came with this film. Well firstly the whole film seemed to move along a path extremely fast. A better explanation would be that they would be doing this one thing and then BAM they are already onto the next part in the story. So I guess it seemed like the plot was a bit rushed. Then of course with every single romance (or romantic comedy) comes along the predictability factor of the movie. This movie is pretty predictable. I was like, "This is going to happen later on." Then guess what happened? What I had guessed. So yeah just a tad predictable, but using tad as an understatement. Then there is Megan Fox. As hot as I think she is, she really isn't a wonderful actress. She always uses the same tone for every single part she acts, and in every movie she plays the extremely hot but snotty girl. Can she even attempt a serious role?

Now we move onto the positives of this film. Well I actually enjoyed this movie a lot, it had me laughing pretty hard in some points. Then it touched my heart in some points. This movie did a really good job at explaining really what it is like with kids, and the other kind of relationships that are out there and how some fall apart. This movie takes a good look at being friends with married couples and how everything changes in any kind of relationship once there is a kid. Now for the acting in this film, well I really loved all of the lead roles performances in this film (expect Megan's of course). John Hamm, Kristen Wigg, Maya Rudolph, Adam Scott, Chris O'Dowd, Jennifer Westfeldt, and Edward Burns. I felt like all of the performances coming out of this cast did a very good job at making me believe that they were there character, which makes you enjoy the movie even more. Now I just looked to see who went and directed this movie and now I love when an actor/actress makes there own movie that they are even starred in, and even better when they make a good movie too. Jennifer Westfeldt directed, wrote, and starred in this movie. Every aspect of her involvement in this film was very good, except for the writing. She had a good story to tell with an interesting topic, just the plot could have been better. I am glad I decided to pick this movie to rent one day.

Which now leads me to the so all-in-all section here of this review. Well even though I did enjoy this movie a lot, it had a few problems with it. So I am only going to give it a rent worthy rating, along with my dat-night rating. It is a good movie to watch once with that special someone. Just rent it and cuddle up together. You both should enjoy it. On the scale out of five, I am going to have to give this film a 3 out of 5. It was an enjoyable movie but had a jumpy plot and that will bug me, plus a little bit predictable.

The Dark Knight Rises REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff' is happy to present a review for the film that we all have been waiting for four years, "The Dark Knight Rises." I have just gotten back from the midnight showing in my home town. Now "The Dark Knight Rises" is about how Batman has been out of the game for eight years, and then a new threat, Bane, shows up and threatens the city of Gotham. Batman is ultimately questioned wether he should return or not and can he?

Well lets just say he does it in a way that is JAW-DROPPING!!!!! Holy freaking shit (excuse my language). If you want a movie to just lose your mind to? Well then look no further. In "The Dark Knight Rises," Christopher Nolan reveals his greatest master piece EVER! This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat from literally the very beginning, all the way until the end credits. We defiantly see a great ending to a wonderful trilogy. Sure there are parts that will piss you off entirely, but in the end you feel like that is the right way of things. A beautifully directed movie Christopher Nolan, props to you. Now the plot of this film took you in places you never thought it would, which was brilliant and what I absolutely love in a GREAT movie. It also keeps some twists in there (about like I said earlier) that keeps you on the edge of your seat, cheering for the good guys, crying, and yelling at what has happened. It is just a beautiful plot and very well written. The acting in this movie was just absolutely spectacular! Christian Bale defiantly outperformed his Batman/Bruce Wayne in this film. Morgan Freeman and Micheal Caine are still absolutely brilliant. Tom Hardy as Bane. Hmmmm how to describe that? Well basically he was MADE to play the character Bane. Oh my god his performance was just incredible. Like they say in that sneak peak, he does things with his eyes that are just amazing. As I have said with Heath Ledger as the Joker in my "The Dark Knight" review, no one could play him better at all. So well done Tom Hardy. Now Joseph Gordon Levitt as John Blake, was just brilliant. Again he did a really good job with his character. It's like Christopher Nolan brings the best out of everyone. Marion Cotillard did a great job as  Miranda Tate in this movie as well. The acting in this film was just beautiful, not one person did I hate. Which includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle or know as Catwoman. I didn't think I was going to like it at all, but surprisingly I loved it 100%. She just kicked butt. Now how about the score for this film? Well again it was taken over by Hans Zimmer, and let me just say, "GREAT JOB!" I have already bought it, and plan to listen to it as soon as possible. The look and this film was just great, there literally wasn't any major things at all to complain about this movie. This film ended "The Dark Knight Triology" perfectly. You couldn't be any happier with the end of this franchise. It does it loyally and there could be no other way. A plus too is that every single one of these films are freaking amazing. You could say that "Batman Begins" is your favorite and no one would care. Personally thought I am going to have to say that "The Dark Knight Rises" is my favorite. Comment below on what your favorite is (after seeing "The Dark Knight Rises" of course).

Now unfortunately I have one really minor thing to say, which is that sometime you really can't understand Bane's voice. Only thing though.

So now what is this film going to get? Well 100% MUST-SEE FILM! You know what? Just go see the film right now. What are your still doing here reading this? Go see it. Already seen it? Go again its so worth it. So yeah though, its getting a 5/5 rating even though I had that tiny thing. Go see this film right now, you are going to enjoy every aspect of it. It is a film that you will enjoy because it is a near perfect movie (I believe nothing is perfect, only near-perfect).

My all-in-all though, is that it is a great film! Literally raking up there with my favorite films (list actually of those coming soonish). You will enjoy this movie if you like twists in a movie, and a movie that will take you in a direction you never expected. You will be lost for about three hours in a world not of yours. Go enjoy the film, there is really nothing to hate about it. Enjoy!

Kung Fu Panda 2 REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the second installment in the Kung Fu Panda series, "Kung Fu Panda 2." The main theme of this film is about Po trying to find out who he really is, where did he come from? I am going to give 'Kung Fu Panda 2" a 7/10 rating. It was really good and funny (I really enjoyed it), but there were a few things that had bothered me.

Lets talk about the positives first shall we, change it up a bit from my most recent  reviews. Well the first thing I want to say is props to Gary Oldman voicing the character of Shen. I just looked that up, and WOW I knew I loved whoever was voicing him, but that is freaking awesome that it was Gary Oldman. So good job to him. Oh and good job to the writers for creating an great villain. I really like the comedic timing in this movie along with it jokes it brought along with them. Very funny and very well done. That brings us to the plot of this film, which I liked. I have more to say though about it below. Continuing on though, I really liked the look of the animation in this film. Everything looked really cool and nice, if you know what I mean. Like some animated movies had terrible animation, but this one was very good. I really liked how the made Tigress softer in this film. It says that even the toughest people do have feelings. Saying this leads me to the message of the film, which kind of has multiple messages. I really liked them, they teach kids a lesson is what a good kids film should do.

Now though we get to the negatives of the film. I said above that I liked the plot, yes I liked it but in my opinion it didn't flow very well. I mean one second they are focused on this problem, something happens, no time to think about it, and BAM they are doing something else. It just seemed to move along very fast, like I said, "It didn't flow well." Thats my opinion though. That happened a couple times in the film so it kind of bothered me. Oh and then there is the end battle, what is it with movies lately with building up to the end battle between good and evil, and then having there battle between them be really short. So it lost a point there.

Otherwise, all-in-all a very good family film! It has a great message for little kids. If you want a good popcorn flick with your family that has a laugh, then this film is a must-see. It gets a high average rating of a 7/10.

Ted REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the first motion picture from the creator of the hit TV series Family Guy, "Ted." Let me just say if I could do a point 0.5 added onto a number I would, but I can't go "Ted" gets a well deserved 7/10! I would be giving it a 7.5/10 but I can't so a seven it is. Well lets talk about this hilarious movie shall we?

Lets start with the positives in this film, because right now thats all I can think about because this movie was just LAUGH-OUT-LOUD funny. Ugh the humor in this film was, yes, raunchy, racist, and stereotypical. What do you expect though? Its from the creators of Family Guy. Seth Macfarlane has definitely outdone himself with the movie. With his involvement in writing, directing, and acting in this film. All of him was superb. Speaking of acting in this film, I LOVED Mila Kunis, Mark Wahlberg, and Giovanni Ribisi in this film. Giovanni did an EXCELLENT job as a creepy obsessed dude. Oh he was just hilarious, and after seeing him in serious roles it just made me laugh. The plot of this film was very well done though, everything seemed to connect together, logically. In the end making a very good film, that made you laugh the whole way through, but yet made you feel something heartfelt too. Oh one thing to add here is that I loved this one scene where they used silence instead of background music, so you could here EVERYTHING perfect. Made it 100 times more funny. Now . . .

Things that kind of bothered me with this tim though. Yes there are some, and I do have to say them. I felt like the beginning of this film, took forever to start. I dunno I just wanted the film to hurry up to the part where they were all older and when John (Mark's character) wasn't young anymore. I also saw to much of a similarity to Family Guy. Yes of course there are going to be some similarities (being it coming from its creator) but the musical notes in some scenes just made me think of Family Guy instantly. Oh and there was this one scene that had goofy sound effect. I felt like that was completely unnecessary. I think those were my complaints, not many but a few.

So all-in-all a VERY funny film, a sure-good movie to watch when you need something to laugh too (unlike "Jack & Jill"). It is definitely a popcorn flick on my list. So make sure you go check it out in theaters.
