Thor: The Dark World REVIEW

Well it is finally time to review another Marvel film, this time starring the Avenger from another world. Here is my review of Thor: The Dark World, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Eccleston, and many more great actor/actresses. In this film Thor is faced with an enemy that even Odin and the forces of Asgard cannot withstand. Thor must reunited with his beloved Jane Foster and his tricky brother to try and stop the forces of Malekith, the evil dark elf. He must sacrifice everything to save us all.

Now lets start of this review by me saying that this movie is freaking enjoyable. I enjoyed every single part of this movie, from the beginning to the end. That being sad lets talk about this movie. This movie brings back most of the original cast for an epic return to the world of Thor. Chris Hemsworth continues the role of the god of thunder, Thor. As said in my other review of, Thor, he pulls of the role perfectly. When casting these Marvel movies the could not have done a better job. They got all amazing actors to portray these amazing roles. The breakout performance in this role again though would have the be Tom Hiddleston as the god of mischief, Loki. Tom Hiddleston as Loki is like Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight. They were practically born to play these roles and they do it just perfectly. I will get to more with Loki later though. Now the one performance in this movie, as I had also mentioned in my review of Thor, that I wasn't really happy with was Natalie Portman's. My real issue with her is just that I could see any actress playing the role of her character. Natalie doesn't become the character, and really I just do not see her as Jane Foster. I don't know what it is, I just don't see her as this character. Other than that everyone else does a great job in this movie. I love how Kat Dennings was back in this movie, and the fact that she had a bigger role in this movie than I thought she was going to have. The last person I want to mention is Stellan Skargård as Dr. Erik Selvig. Again he pulls of the role and I could not have been happier with the twist they added to his character.

Moving on I want to mention the story of the movie. Let's start of by saying that I absolutely loved each and every single twist involved in this movie. Almost every single twist I never saw coming. I predicted some things before I went into the movie, and I thought I was right on several occasions but then I ended up being wrong because of the twist. I wasn't wrong with a few things though, I was right on a couple things. Now the only couple things I would have to complain about from this movie would have to be the fact that it left you hanging with a lot of things. The end scene you were like, "WHAT!?!?!" Then the end credit scene you were really confused with as well? I really hope we get a good explanation later, unlike the end credit scene with The Avengers. We still really don't know how that is tying in with that scene yet. I thought this movie would, but so far there has been nothing. The last thing I wanted to mention about this screenplay would have to be that it is just your basic ordinary superhero movie storyline. There is nothing spectacular about it except the twists that are thrown in with the movie. I did like how the story was a lot more humorous though. The comedy in this movie worked and it was well enjoyed. Loki was really the star of the comedy in this movie, which I loved even more.

Now there are a few last minute things I do want to mention. These would include the visual effects, the cinematography, and then music. Yes as with almost every Marvel movie the special effects are pretty darn incredible, but I love a movie with good special effects. I can't stand a movie with bad special effects these days because we know the technology is there now and this movie proves it. I never noticed one bad special effect scene in this movie. Moving on to the cinematography of this movie I just really wanted to mention how I love the gritty look of the movie along with the whole feel the movie gave to the watcher. Kramer Morgenthau did a great job with this movie I will have to say, that is for sure. Now Brian Tyler did the musical score for this movie and he had also done the musical score for Iron Man 3. I thought the music seemed similar, and lucky for Brian I loved the score from Iron Man 3. So the score from this movie was just as good. It is one that I really would buy to listen to. I love the musical score of movies and this is another good one.

Summing up this review, I will say that Thor: The Dark World is a very welcomed return to the world of Thor. It is super enjoyable and the action scenes are epic as heck! I will be seeing this movie in theaters again because I love Marvel movies and this is a great addition to the Avenger series! Now for the ratings I will have to say that this movie is a MUST-SEE FILM, if you are a Marvel fan and a fan of the Avenger series. Like I had said it is a great addition to the series. Thor: The Dark World also deserves a buy on Blu-Ray rating. Now I did see this in 3D but really there is no need, so I will say that this movie is worth the ticket price for a movie night. So go out an see it, right NOW! Now for the rating out of 10 stars, I will have to say that it deserves an 8/10 star rating.

Braveheart REVIEW

The Motion Picture Buff would like to present a review for the 1996 Best Picture Winner, Braveheart! This film is about the rebellion of Scotland against England in the 13th Century. William Wallace was the the heart and soul of this rebellion after his secret wife was murdered after she assaulted a King's soldier with whom tried to rape her.

Let me just say first that I absolutely LOVE this movie. It is no doubt one of my favorite films of all time. This movie is before Mel Gibson went insane, and let me just say that he did a fine job with this film. Mel Gibson was in charge of directing and acting in this movie, but yet the movie is just fantastic. Sure the effects and fighting scenes are a little outdated but this movie is old so it is acceptable. While talking about the action sequences I guess I could say that they are pretty darn awesome. I remember the first time I watched this movie and saw all of them I was just so intrigued by them. I loved each and every one of them. The reasoning of why William Wallace fights against the English is just perfect too. I am a big romantic and the fact that William does this all because his wife had been killed is just great. Moving on to the acting . . . all the main actors in the film do a surprisingly fantastic job! On that really stands out to me though is Mel Gibson's performance. You just believe that he is William Wallace. I think Mel Gibson just transformed into him. You can see it in his eyes and just his overall performance, I honestly think he should have at least been nominated for his performance. Next I want to talk about the screenplay/script. I think it works it may be historically inaccurate but most movies based on true events have fudged the truth to an extent. As I am writing it this right now my sister is watching the film and crying. I would have to say that it works because it really captivates people and engrosses them into the film. Another thing great about this movie is the ending really. I just love the ending and since I don't know if you have seen the movie or not I will not spoil it for you. Trust me when I say though that you should enjoy it though.

Now for the bad things about this movie. Now this film being one of my top ten favorites I can't really think of anything bad. But as I will be giving this film a 9/10 there has to be one thing wrong with it. I guess I would say that the movie can drag on just a bit. It is a three hour movie and there are some parts where the movie just seems to take forever. The only bad thing I would say about it.

So summarizing it all up this movie is for sure a GREAT movie. It has everything a great movie should have and more. You will for sure enjoy, "Braveheart" anytime you watch it. It is a popcorn movie night film in case you were wondering. Anytime you need a movie for a night of movies this would be a great pick. I would for sure give it a BUY ON Blu-Ray rating, along with the rating I said earlier a 9/10 rating. It defiantly deserved its five Oscars, and for sure deserved that Oscar for Best Picture.

Quantum of Solace REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present another review of another Bond film, 2008's "Quantum of Solace." In this film MI6 agent James Bond is seeking revenge for the death of a loved one and the attempted murder of another. During his pursuit he sets out to stop an environmentalist who plans to steal a countries most valuable resource.

Shall we start with the positives from this Bond film? Well I guess first things first is that Daniel Craig pursues to be the best James Bond yet. He really plays the part well. He just has that look and attitude about him that makes him excel as his character. I could think of no one better to play the part. Olga Kurylenko does a great job with her character as well. Some of her scenes were just amazing to me. I thought she did a really good job. The rest of the cast too did a good job. The Bond films always seem to do a good job when it comes to casting. Moving on I would have to say that the revenge James's seeking makes sense, and the film does a decent job with it. The story behind the film, what is driving the film, is good but more on that later.  The score I am going to have to say I love. The other thing I wanted to mention were the action sequences which were extremely engaging and had me on the edge of my seat. So I will say that Marc Foster did a decent job with this film. I guess it is kind of hard to do a really good job when the screenplay sucks.

Now I want to move onto the negatives. The screenplay is just a mess for this film. Everyone knows this. It just jumps around. I can remember the first couple times watching this I never really understood the main point of this film. Watching it this time though I think I finally caught on with it. I was just so confused the first couple of times. I also am still left with the question of what is Quantum? Do they ever really tell us what it is in this film? I was just so confused with it. Moving on though . . . the dialogue of this film is not the greatest. It seems a bit unnatural and forced.

So all-in-all an action-packed Bond film where James is just pissed. The screenplay driving the film though is a mess and be prepared to get a little lost in the story line. For the ratings I will give it a rent worthy rating along with popcorn flick rating. No way is it going to get a must-see rating. As for the rating out of five, "Quantum of Solace" will get a 3/5 rating sadly.

Casino Royale REVIEW

Well the "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present his third review from the "James Bond" franchise,  2006's "Casino Royale." In this film James Bond is on his first mission as a 00. He must stop Le Chiffre, a banker for the world's terrorists organization. He must win a high-stakes poker game at Casino Royale in Montenegro.

So shall we start with the positives of this Bon film? Now that I think about it though I don't really think their is a negative to suggest? We will see though. So with the positives I shall start with acting, like I always due. Well Daniel Craig is the new James Bond, and in my opinion the best Bond their is. He just has that quality that makes him this character. He is badass, charming, rough, and all around a great James Bond. Eva Green is the Bond girl in this film and let me say she plays her role . . . well lets say no one else could have played it better. She makes you believe in the things her character has to. Mads Mikkelsen was the villain in this Bond film and let me just say probably one of my favorite Bond villains of all time. He was creepy, scary, and all around emotional when he needed to be. He fit the part and played it perfectly. Of course their were other actor/actresses in this film and everyone did a very good job with creating a great movie. Moving on to the screenplay I am going to have to say that this movie does a great job with restarting the James Bond character, and they help him become a human being again! They make James relatable and realistic in this film, and the plot of this film just connects and makes sense. It for sure keeps you on the edge of your seat, even when the story could get a little boring. Instead they did a good job with the scene and made it enjoyable. Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade wrote this film and they did a great job with it. Martin Campbell did a GREAT job with the direction of this Bond film. It really took a realistic and darker tone that I enjoyed. The score of course was very good, as most James Bond movies have a good score. The classic Bond theme was in it too; which I always enjoy. As a whole this film does a GREAT job restarting the James Bond franchise, with honor and justice.

So all-in-all after thinking about it their wasn't a negative I could think about. So I this movie is definitlely my favorite James Bond film, and is 100% a must-see film. It doesn't make it to my TOP TEN LIST, because its not a film that I would enjoy more than ones on my list. I will give it the popcorn flick rating, it will be a good film for you and your buddies to enjoy. Go ahead and spend the money to buy it on Blu-ray. You won't regret it. As for the rating out of five, "Casino Royale" is of course going to get the high honor of 5/5 rating.

Beetlejuice REVIEW

In the Halloween spirit the "Motion Picture Buff" would like to review a Halloween classic, "Beetlejuice." In this film a couple of newly made ghosts hire a "bio-exorcist" to help get ride of the obnoxious new family that moved in to their house.

Shall I begin with the positives that come from this film? Well lets begin with the acting in this film. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis were the two newly made ghosts in this film and I thought these two had amazing chemistry together. They really seemed like the perfect couple and I really enjoyed their characters. Oh and I never realized how awesome Alec Baldwin used to look. Jeffery Jones, Catherine O'Hara, and Winona Ryder (as a teenager) were the Deetz family that moved into the house. These three did a good job, but Winona stood out the most. I really enjoyed her performance in this film. Moving on I thought the story and screenplay of this movie was actually very well done. The whole story seemed to just work, and it was very interesting. It was funny when it needed to be, and it was the good funny that actually made you laugh and remember why you were laughing which makes you laugh again. Director Tim Burton did an excellent job with this film . . . right up until the end (more on that later though). The music in the film isn't bad either, it is pretty darn enjoyable. As a movie as a whole though, I will have to say it is extremely enjoyable and it keeps you watching. Originally I wasn't going to watch it all the way through, I kept telling myself, "One more commercial and then I will go do my homework." Instead though I watched the entire movie, and ended up doing my homework late into the night. I hate to love how a movie can do that to me.

So what are the negatives of this film? Well the last maybe 15-25 minutes of the film were completely timburtonized. The word timburtonized means that it is completely over-the-top weird and just down right creepy and dumb. In this film the that is what you endure for the last half-an-hour about. I just found it annoying. Then the only other thing was Micheal Keaton's performance as the character Beetlejuice. It was completely over-the-top and just down right annoying.

So all-in-all a extremely good Halloween flick that you and your family or friends should enjoy. I can see why it is a classic. For the rating I will give it a must-see rating along with a popcorn flick; which includes for a family-night. It is probably Blu-ray buy worthy but you can probably pick it up on DVD too. As for the rating out of five, "Beetlejuice" is going to receive a 4/5 rating.

Black Swan REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the 2010 movie, "Black Swan." In this film a ballet dancer is the prefect dancer for the white swan in "Swan Lake." She wins the lead role, but as time progresses she becomes more and more like the black swan.

Well shall we begin with the negatives of the film? Well lets just say that in some points of this film it can be SUPER slow and just down right boring. Then there is times when it is hard to distinguish between Nina's (main character) imaginations or reality. There are times when I had a hard time telling if what was going on was real or not. I did also want to mention that at some points this film could just be a little bit to weird. There are parts where it is good, but then there is just the down right weird scenes. So to recap this film could be boring and slow-paced at times, and also that it could get confusing when it came to Nina's reality.

Other than that I really liked this film quite a bit. Natalie Portman was just OUTSTANDING. Seriously if anyone ever deserved their Oscar it was 100% her. This girl can really act the dual personalties just perfectly. Natalie was also really good at the depressed look Nina always had. She was literally transformed into her character, Nina. Mila Kunis is also in this film and she just like Natalie, did incredible. The chemistry between them too was amazing! Now, the rest of the cast also included: Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey, and more. The cast was filled with amazing talent and great dancers. Speaking of dancing, everyone did fantastic. The choreography was just outstanding and if Natalie did all her own dancing . . . well done is what I have to say. I usually am not a dancer type person and I do not enjoy watching it usually, but holy shit was this dancing good in this film. I do also want to move onto the cinematography of the film. I thought it was literally beautiful for this film, and helped the film with its feel of dark emotions. So I guess a well done does go to the cinematographer, Matthew Libatique. Now the story of this film I thought was very intriguing as well. It's a girl transforming/losing herself to her character she has to become for the part she so desires. I thought Mark Heyman, John L. McLaughlin, and Andres Heinz created a good script, just needed to fix issues above. Now director Darren Aronofsky was at the helm of this movie. I can say he did a good job with this movie. I was interested and pulled into it, just needed to fix issues above. Yet though he did do a good job.

So all-in-all a good film that is enjoyable. It has its negatives, but then it has it's strong points; one of them being the cast! For the ratings I am going to give it only a rent worthy rating. Its not a movie you need to buy because it really isn't something you will watch over and over again. It's possible that it is a must-see film though because Natalie's performance is just that good, plus it is still rather enjoyable movie. It is 100% a tour-de-force film too. As for the rating out of five, "Black Swan" will get a 3.5/5 rating.

Sinister REVIEW

Well it is definitely Halloween season, and the "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the horror film, "Sinister." I had the pleasure of seeing it at 10 o'clock last night so let just say I am a little freaked out. In this film though, a true-crime novelist moves into the home of where the victims of his new story died. Here he finds footage of the killings, but he released something he didn't intend to. So, once you have released "Mr. Boogie" though it is already to late.

Well as you know I am not a huge fan of scary/horror films. They scare the living shit out of me. Now before I do get into this review though I do want to apologize in advance for language used in this review. It really is only the best way to describe this film.

So shall we start with the negatives of this horror flick first? Well most scary films are extremely predictable and just so obvious with the scary moments. In "Sinister" you had this as well. You knew what was going to happen. You knew the scary moments and you knew most likely all of the plot right of the bat.

Other than that though it was a really good scary movie. Yeah you knew what was going to happen, but the good thing about it is you don't know when the scary moment is going to happen. The film also kept you scared and just kept everything creepy even though you knew what was going to be creepy. I actually screamed twice within the movie (with all my friends laughing around me of course). I was terrified the whole way through. So I am going to have to give props to the director, Scott Derrickson, and to the writer who is also Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Holy shit can they really fucking creep you out (sorry again). Plus I do want to add they had probably the best ending to a scary movie I have seen. I loved to hate it, because it was just fucking creepy. I went home and I fell asleep yes but I couldn't stop picturing "Mr. Boogie" in the darkness. I also woke up once or twice throughout the night because I couldn't get him out of my head. So props to them for creating probably one of the scariest films I have ever seen. I do also remember this one time my arms went flailing all over the place because I was scared. Now the acting from everyone in this film was just great also. Ethan Hawke pulled off an amazing performance I thought. He was just really good in this film, and it was nice to see him again. It has been awhile since we have seen him in a film. Good job to the rest of the cast as well. Kept the movie creepy but yet enjoyable.

So all-in-all a creepy ass movie that will keep you scared for quite awhile after. I am still scared now,  and I can still scare myself if I think about it and "Mr. Boogie." This film, "Sinister" is going to get a Blu-ray buy worthy rating, but as I hate scary movies I will not be buying it. It will also get a popcorn flick rating, if you and your friends are having a scary movie night, this film will definitely work for that. As a scary movie though, I guess I could give it a must-see rating, but not for professional film standards. A must-see as in for horror films. As for the rating, "Sinister" is going to get a 4/5 rating.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the movie, "One Flew Over the Cuckoos's Nest." In this film, R.P. McMurphy arrives at a mental institution. After arriving he becomes a rebel and rallies the patients to fight back against the oppressive Nurse Ratchet, a woman who is more of a dictator than a nurse.

Well shall we begin this review with the negatives? First thing I really would like to say is that this film can be extremely slow at some points. There are times within this film where you are just waiting and waiting for something interesting to happen. Then there is the other thing, which is the ending of the film. As to not give anything away all I am going to say is that I am not sure really why he did what he did? I was a little bit confused.

Other than that I loved this film, it really was magnificent. Jack Nicholson really did deserve his Oscar for his performance in this role. You really fell in love with him and his character. Louise Fletcher played Nurse Ratchet, and she also deserved her Oscar she got in this film. Holy crap, there were sometimes where I just wanted to punch her. Ugh she could really make you angry and Jack Nicholson really helped you feel it too. Now the rest of the cast was fantastic as well as these two. Danny DeVito got an Oscar nomination for this film and he really did deserve that. I was just shocked by his performance. He really could play a person with a mental disability. Sydney Lasswick played Cheswick, and let me just say great job man. Oh his character could really get on your nerves throughout the film and he did it perfectly. Will Sampson, Brad Dourif (who does a GREAT job), Scatman Crothers, Christopher Lloyd, and more were also in this film. This was another on of those films with a great cast! Milos Forman was in charge of directing this film and I think he did a superb job with it. You really were on the edge of your seat there at some points. Then there was the screenplay which had great dialogue. I love a film with good dialogue. It also had a great message this film did and it displayed it fantastically. I also loved the cinematography of the film was just great also. I did also want to mention the score of the film which I enjoyed also. So good job by composer Jack Nitzsche.

So all-in-all this film is a very enjoyable film that has a great message for all of us to learn. This film will break your heart and at the same time give you some warmth and happiness. It has some of the best acting too. "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is going to receive a must-see film rating along with Blu-ray buy worthy or DVD. For that decision it is really up to your preference and budget. Its one of those films that is just as good on DVD as Blu-ray. This film is 100% a tour-de-force too. As for the rating, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" deserves a great 4.5/5 rating.

Taken 2 REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present his review for the feature film, "Taken 2." This film takes place in Istanbul, Turkey. Retired CIA operative Brian Mills and his family are on vacation when the father of a kidnapper Brian killed when saving his daughter seeks revenge. 

Well lets begin with the positives shall we? Well I am going to have to say again that the acting that Liam Neeson gives us in this film is great. He pulls off the role of Brian Mills again with a superb performance. Maggie Grace still does wonderful as his daughter, Kim. They still have that amazing chemistry they shared in the first film. Famke Janssen plays the mother of Kim. She did in the first film. You never really saw much of her in "Taken" but in this film she really excels, well done. Rade Serbedzija is the villain in this film and he can play one pretty well.  Now I really did enjoy the action scenes in this film, they kept you on the edge of your seat once again. They were again bad-ass as in the first film. 

So the negatives from this film. Well let me just say that the first film is WAY better than the second. The direction and the camera angles of this film were that shaky camera type, and I found them okay in some spots. Sometimes I found them extremely distracting and annoying. How come they never brought back the original director for this film?  Then there was the plot again . . . REALLY? What really happened in this film? What I mean by this is that the movie was over just as it began really. It was really slow in the beginning of the film, dedicating a lot of time to build up. Then they built up to something that was quick and never really lasted long. You just felt like the movie was over as soon as it began. Way to fast-paced of a film. Then there was the fact that a girl with NO training at all, did what she did. That is just ridiculous, there is no way that is possible. Then the premise of this film also had bothered me. Revenge on the guy who killed your son because your son kidnapped your daughter? No I found the premise of this film to be ill thought of a dumb. Then there is the music. In the first film it was good, this film it . . . SUCKED! I felt like it intruded on the scenes and I found it to be extremely annoying. 

So all-in-all what did I think of "Taken 2?" Well it was a good mindless action flick. If you like action just to see action you will enjoy this. Otherwise this film does not have much going for it. I will give it the rating of popcorn flick along with rent worthy. As for the rating out of five, "Taken 2" will get a 2/5 rating.

Taken REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the movie, "Taken." In this film a retired CIA agent goes on a hunt for his daughter after she was taken by some fugitives who kidnap young women for prostitution.

So lets begin this review with the negatives from this film. Well first of all this movie just has no break. Its like one thing is happening and then it doesn't even stall and then BAM the next thing is already happening. The plot and everything isn't the best, it is just the movie moves along way to quick and it feels rushed. The other thing that bothered me is that it really never does a good job explaining things, and it leaves a few things unresolved in the end I thought.

What does this movie have going for it though? Well Liam Neeson is the main reason this movie excels! He just pulls off an amazing performance within this film, and his action sequences within this film are just BAD-FREAKING-ASS! He really can play a bad-ass protective father. His voice too was just perfect for the role. Maggie Grace as Kim is also really good, I did enjoy her performance. The chemistry between her and Liam I thought was very believable too. The next thing I did enjoy was Pierre Morel's direction of the film. The camera angle and shots were always perfect and helped us feel like we were in the middle of the action. Speaking of which the action sequences in this film were just awesome. I loved it and in some scene you just have to cringe at what Liam Neeson does to some of the bad guys. The film was very engaging in this film and you really cared about Liam Neeson's character and what he was fighting for. I thought the writers did a really job setting that up. I also thought they had an interesting idea for the film. It was a very simple idea and they went with it in a decent way I thought. I do also want to mention the score of the film which I thought helped a lot with some action sequences and brought something to the scenes. So well done Nathaniel Méchaly.

So all-in-all this film is a great bad-ass film! It is very intriguing and engaging and I promise you will enjoy it if you love Liam Neeson. I am going to have to give it a must-see rating along with a DVD buy worthy. It is close to Blu-ray, so if you wanted to go ahead . . . it will be worth it. It is 150% a popcorn flick for a movie night and it is again BAD-ASS! As for the rating out of five I will give, "Taken" a 3.5/5 rating.

Zombieland REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the movie, "Zombieland." In this film a home-bound college student, a master of arms tough guy on a quest to find a Twinkie, and two sisters on there way to an amusement park team up together to travel across a zombie infested America.

Well I had no hopes for this film. Lets just say I thought the whole thing was going to be a joke, gladly I was actually surprised to fine out that I loved this film very much.This film was extremely enjoyable, here are the reasons why. The whole story line was just great. I was engaged in the film the whole time, wanting more and more. All of the characters stories in this film you actually cared about, and the people playing the characters did a great job. This films main cast includes Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. I thought each and every one of them did fantastic. Woody Harrelson really did steal the show though with his performance. Another thing this film had going for itself was that the humor in this film was actually enjoyable. I loved it, the funny parts made me laugh and it wasn't over-the-top funny. "I haven't cried like that since 'Titanic.'" Thought I would slip that in there. I did like the direction of the film, I thought Ruben Fleischer did a good job with it. I like when Jesse's character did one of his rules that it would pop up on the screen with a neat effect. Speaking of effects though I loved the looks of the zombie's. I also enjoyed how they didn't use the generic zombie where they hold there arms out and walk slowly. In this movie they sprint and I thought that made it more realistic (even thought the whole thing really isn't). Now the look of the film I also enjoyed. Cinematographer Micheal Bonvillian, was at the helm of this movie's cinematography and I thought he captured the film in a unique way. So yes in the end I did enjoy this film, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Though I do have some negatives to add to this review of, "Zombieland." Firstly (and mainly) I want to talk about the flow of the movie. I felt like this movie just flowed to quickly. It is about an hour and a half long, but I still think for a movie that it was fast-paced. It is like one thing is happening, but then little break and then WHAM on to the next thing. The ending I really didn't enjoy to much either. It left a lot of unanswered questions and things that could have used a bit of more explaining. I think that was about it though.

So all-in-all for being a somewhat of a horror film, I actually enjoyed it very much. I am going to have to give it a DVD buy worthy rating along with popcorn flick. You and your friends will definitely enjoy this film on a halloween movie night. As for the rating out of five, "Zombieland" will get a 3.5/5 rating.

Cast Away REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the movie starring Tom Hanks, "Cast Away." In this film Tom Hanks plays a FedEx executive who was involved in a plane crash in the middle of the ocean. He must now transform himself to survive on a deserted island.

Well lets get the negatives out of the way first shall we? Well I am not sure how I feel about the plot and the flow of the story. To me it just seemed like it was very jumpy, and it just didn't show enough of his transformation on the island. They show like the first couple days of him being stranded, but then they skip to four years later and him plotting his escape now. I dunno I guess really what I am complaining about here is the plot. It just seemed to flow wrong in my eyes. It was also extremely slow in spots. Along with the plot though, the dialogue in this film was a bit unnatural. I think if you have seen this you will understand what I am trying to say. All-in-all dealing with the screenplay . . . it was an interesting premise for a film and done okay, but could have been way better. The only other thing that bothered me was Helen Hunt. Her performance in this film was just okay. I felt like she was just reading lines.

Now for the positives. I am sure you can guess (if you have seen it) that I am going to talk about Tom Hanks performance. What I wanna say here is that this man can act. WHOLY SHIT! I was freaking impresses. He can really give an outstanding performance. That one scene with Wilson (his volleyball) friend. I seriously started to tear up because of him. Well done sir . . . well done. Robert Zemeckis does the directing for this film and I want to say good job also. I loved the angles of the camera and the look and feel he gave to the film. I really did enjoy this film. Where the movie should be slow usually because it is a man stuck on a deserted island, he makes it somewhat interesting (except mentioned above). So props to that. I so love how they kept the film quite in these parts and just made the sounds of the waves. It was fantastic, so props to the sound team too for a great job with the waves. I thought it was brilliant.

So all-in-all a decent enjoyable film that has a great premise but could have been told better. I will say that it is DVD buy worthy and that it is a must-see because of the performance by Tom Hanks. It is really that great, "WILSON!" Anyways for the rating out of five for "Cast Away" I will have to give it a 3/5 rating because of the plot (that seemed to really bother me).

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present his fifth installment of his reviews of the "Harry Potter" series. In, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" it is Harry's fifth year at the legendary school Hogwarts . . . and in the wizarding world there is two wars going on right now. The war against (if you don't want to be spoiler because for some odd reason you have not seen these films, or read the book. Do NOT read the this review) Lord Voldemort has begun. Harry and his friends and allies have to also fight war against the ministry who is reluctant to believe that the dark lord has returned.

Well lets begin with positives of this "Harry Potter" film shall we? Well I really do again have to say that the trio is really progressing as actors, but in this film Daniel Radcliffe is really learning to shine. He has to be this pissed-off Harry in this film almost all the way through and I think he pulls it off greatly. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint also do very well, along with the rest of the cast. Ralph Fiennes again as (now I tell you) Lord Voldemort is just the greatest. He pulls it off greatly. One other person when first finding out who was going to be playing this character made me iffy at what the movie makers of the franchise were doing. Imelda Staunton does a great . . . no correction AMAZING job as Dolores Umbridge, and if you read the books you will understand why. The series is yet again under another director, David Yates, and I think he did alright. There are some other potential problems that could deal with his job, but I thought he did good. I do like the story line of the book but more on that later actually. "Order of the Phoenix" is a lot darker and heavy than the rest of the films, which make sense. It is done with greatness too, and it also starts to set up the beginning of the end battle (that you know is inevitable). The special effects of this film were great as they usually are in a "Harry Potter" film.

Now the weakness or negatives of this "Harry Potter" film. First off, I do want to say that this out of all the Harry Potter films, is my least favorites. The screenplay is firstly helmed by someone other than Steve Kloves (and it will be the only time it is). Micheal Goldenberg decided to helm this film and I want to say you screwed up this film Micheal. I thought the dialogue in this movie was just terrible, it seemed like there was barely a normal conversation in this film. They also seemed choppy. Not this is coming from a fan point of view, "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED WITH THE END TALK WITH DUMBLEDORE!?!?!" Ugh I was so angry and you will only understand if you have read the books and if you had you will agree with me when saying that they left a lot out. Now back to not fan view point (when the fan point does have some sense to a professional standpoint too) I do want to say that this film seems jus too quick, know what I mean? It all seems to happen to fast. Just doesn't seem to flow right I guess.

So all-in-all of course an enjoyable ride with Harry Potter again. I am going to have to bump this one down though to only a DVD buy worthy, but I will say it is a must-see film. Yes of course a popcorn flick, but no more is the "Harry Potter" franchise in the kids film range. So what does "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" get on the scale out of five? Well I am going to only give it a 3/5 rating.

Inglorious Basterds REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the film created by Quentin Tarantino, "Inglorious Basterds." In this film it takes you back to the time when the Nazi's occupied France. A group of Jewish solders plant to assassinate the leaders of the Nazi party, while they get some unexpected help from the owner of the theater where it all happens.

Well hm really you know how I have a TOP TEN LIST? Well when I extend it to the TOP FIFTEEN (which I will) this movie is 100% going to be on it! I am actually rethinking the list right now because this movie is absolutely amazing! The acting in this film from everyone is just SUBERB. The cast in this film includes: Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Micheal Fassbender, Diane Kruger, B. J. Novak, Mélanie Laurent, Eli Roth, Til Schweiger, and many more of course. Who I want to comment on in this review is Christoph Waltz's performance. This is (if I remember right) the first movie I have ever seen him in and he is now one of my favorite actors out there. Oh his performance is just phenomenal. He really became his character in this film. Apparently I wasn't the only one to think that wither because he did receive an Oscar for his performance in this film (2010 awards). So I thank you Christoph Waltz for an amazing performance. We move on now to the direction of the film . . . along with the screenplay because in this review the two co-inside with each other. They were great, the script was great and it was just a wonderful story. In this film they kept the dialogue true to the nationality of the character which I believe is great because it adds to the film and makes it somehow more enjoyable. As to not to give anything away about the plot I will not mention my favorite part about it, but lets just say this movie has some twists (if you have seen the film you will know what I am talking about). A thanks goes out to Quentin Tarantino for creating a GREAT film.  The costumes were great for they film, they really did a good job with setting up the stage for World War II time. The the last thing I really want to comment on is something I really wouldn't comment on, which is the cinematography. I thought I was very good for some reason in this film, and well I guess it was because it got nominated for an Oscar for that part of the film. Oh actually one last thing, I love the music in this film. For some reason I can't find who did the score but I loved the music that always played in the background.

The only negative things I could really say about "Inglorious Basterds" was the fact that it was a bit slow in some spots . . . other than that nothing! Oh wait there was this one guys performance in the film that I hated! Oh the guy who played Fredrick (Daniel Brühl) . . . I just feel like he did not fit the part.

So all-in-all I am pretty sure you can guess what this film will be getting? Well of course it is 150% a must-see film. I would have to say it is a tour-de-force too. "Inglorious Basterds" will also get a Blu-Ray buy worthy rating also. I do want to say though, "Fair warning this film is pretty gory. Which was something I did not expect!" Now on the scale out of five, "Inglorious Basterds" will get a 4.5/5 rating.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present his fourth installment in the reviews of the "Harry Potter" franchise, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." In Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts, he finds himself unwillingly put into a multi-wizard competition. Not only does he fight great creatures, but something from the past is brought back up.

So lets begin with the negatives of this film shall we? Well this film at points has just a mindless tone to it. I don't know really how to describe it. It's not really slow, but it just has somewhat of an emptiness to it. I don't know if you are getting what I am trying to say but thats the best apt description I can give. The next thing I wanted to mention is that the hair in this film sucks. I usually only say that if its really good, but this film is an exception because it is terrible unfortunately. Just all the guys hair in the film is WAY to long and it just annoys me.

Moving on though to the positives of "Goblet of Fire." Well the acting is just as good as ever in this film. All the child stars are growing up and maturing, along with their characters. Which leads me to the director who has to deal with this hormones and the changes that happen when the kids hit the child to teenage changing point. Mike Newell (again another new director for the franchise) does a great job with this film, and I was sad to see him not return for the next. Sliding back to the action though because there are two new MAIN characters introduce in this film, well one really one just gets an actor to his name now. Brennan Gleeson who plays Mad-Eye Moody and Ralph Fiennes (who plays, well I cannot say or I will give away the story). They both do a fantastic job, and Ralph just is OUTSTANDING! That is all I can say there. Now moving onto the music of this film . . . and this is where the music of Harry Potter takes a turn. Patrick Doyle is the composer for "Goblet of Fire" and all I have to say is that he does a decent job. Nowhere near as good as John Williams but a decent job that is a buy if you want. There are some good tracks there. The screenplay is good, which is one again helmed by Steve Kloves. He just has a way with making the book not directly to the film, but getting the main feeling out of the story. It is a step up from the kidsy-mush that the first three have and it gives it a more dark tone to the series, which it now will need. It is a darker film and it will grab you by surprise.

So all-in-all I am going to have to say that this Harry Potter film is defiantly my favorite so far in the series (we are only halfway). It is a Blu-Ray buy worthy film I believe, which leads it into a must-see film again for the "Harry Potter" series. It is also a GREAT popcorn flick for the whole family. Now for the rating out of five? Well "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is going to get a four out of five.

Titanic REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to divert for a little bit from the reviews of the "Harry Potter" series, and review one of his TOP TEN MUST-SEE FILMS, "Titanic" written and directed by James Cameron. In this film a boy and girl that come from oppostie ends of the social class meet during the ill-fated journey of the RMS Titanic.

Firstly I want to say that if you have not seen this movie . . . how dare you! So, obviously I am starting with the positives first for this review. I can 250% understand why this movie got its 11 Oscars on Oscar night that night. This film is just beautiful in every single aspect. The direction and camera angles are just beautiful and everything. It captures and sucks you into the story in such a fantastic way that you don't want the film to end even though it is three hours long. Which leads me into the screenplay/story-line of this film. Oh my god I don't think I have ever loved one more. Oh it is just absolutely beautiful the way James Cameron took this movie with the script. You know the ending right off the bat, and yet your sitting there hoping it won't, but it is inevitable. James Cameron was involved in almost every aspect of this film and I am glad he was. It was defiantly his baby, and one of my ALL-TIME favorite movies. Moving off James Cameron though, lets talk about the music (or score) of "Titanic." James Horner this is probably one of the first of your works I have heard . . . before I saw "Braveheart" and let me say your a genius. This album is a definite must-buy. He just adds to the movie in a way that is unimaginable. Okay before I move onto acting I want to say this . . . I could watch this movie forever and never get bored . . . it may be number six on my MUST-SEE MOVIES LIST, but it is the only movie I could never stop watching. Now acting in this film is outstanding and there are so many great actor in this film and to make sure I do not leave any one out I am not going to mention anyone. The whole cast of this film does an outstanding job and that is all I have to say here. I just don't want to leave a single cast member out when I say that everyone was MADE for there part. They all made me believe in such a great and well made movie. So thank you to all the cast and crew for creating such a great movie.

Of course though there has to be a negative. I have only one thing to say really that is a main thing which is the fact that the love story within this film is just SUPER SUPER cheesy and kind of annoying. Only really negative of this film.

So all-in-all "Titanic" is going to get the ratings of theses: date-night movie, Blu-Ray buy worthy, must-see film, and a tour-de-force. It is just one of those movies that everyone has to see in there life-time. So on the scale out of five "Titanic" is going to get a four point five out of five.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present his second installment in the series of reviews for the "Harry Potter" series, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." In the Harry Potter's second year at Hogwarts he has to find a way to return to his school after a house-elf tries to stop him. When Harry makes it to school though he finds out that he might not have wanted to return after all, after an old school legend comes back . . . again.

Before I get into the review though I wanted to say thank you and sorry. I have been out for a week on reviews because I sliced a part of my right index finger off and it has been sore to type . . . I only did it if I had to. I have now started to heal, and decided tonight to start making reviews for movies again. (I have a bunch coming as I have had time while on bed rest to watch them). So make sure you do stay tuned. I also wanted to say thanks as I have had a steady amount of page views while being gone . . . I hope this continues as I am back now again and reviewing again. I hope you will continue to enjoy them, so stay tuned and lets get to this review (oh and I apologize in advance for errors, still hard to type).

So lets start with the negatives as to end on a positive note (as this is one of my favorite "Harry Potter films").  Well I really have only two things to say about this movie. One is that it is extremely . . . slow. This movie continues to drag and drag on with no end. This leads me into number two which I am going to say that this could have taken out scenes and made it probably an hour shorter (also a positive here though). It is just such a slow paced movie, which makes you in the end super tired.

Moving onto the positives of this film though. Well this movie is just great, the acting from the kids only gets better. The trio are just becoming great at acting, and we are only on the second film. We get a couple new characters in this film and Jason Issacs, Mark Williams, and Robert Hardy (as Fudge) all do a great job. The voice of Dobby is played by Toby Jones and he seems to become the character, which I absolutely love. The next thing really is that the direction of this movie is great, Christopher Columbus always seems to do a great job at keeping you somewhat interested in this film. The screenplay is very well done by Steve Kolves (again) . . . except of course for the things mentioned above. Which leads me to the fact that this film is definitely one of the most loyal to the book (which is a good and bad thing). Bad because it made the movie slow, but good because fans of the book will enjoy it more. The special effects for this film are very great since there are some huge things that they are needed for. Lets just say AGAIN John Williams nailed it with his score for this film. I loved it and of course it is another must-have score.

So-all-in-all Harry's second year at Hogwarts is another enjoyable ride that you must-see! Is is 100% a must-see and I would have to say go ahead and purchase it at your choice! Either way your going to want to either watch it yourself, regardless your age, or enjoy it with little kids. It is a great story for them too. So on a scale out of five what does "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" get? Well I am going to have to say a four out of five.

R.I.P. Micheal Clarke Duncan

I am sure you have already heard the sad news about the passing of a great actor, Micheal Clarke Duncan, but I thought in honor I should do a blog post. He passed away Monday after a two month long struggle with a heart attack. "He suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered," said Micheal's personal representative. Micheal Clarke Duncan was 54 years old and engaged to marry Osmarosa Manigault-Stallworth. I am saddened to report this news to you all. It saddens me to report the loss of someone who had so much talent, especially since he was still pretty young and had a lot of life before him yet.

Micheal's motion picture history includes "Planet of the Apes (2001)" as Attar. He was also nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting role for his performance as John Coffey in "The Green Mile." He most recent work was in the TV series "The Finder." His most recent work in the movie industry is in the film "In the Hive" which has been completed and is expected to be released in 2012.

Dwayne Johnson had this to say about Micheal's passing, "I will miss you my brother." Its sad to see that he had to leave this world. All I want to say is thank you Micheal Duncan for your amazing contribution to the motion picture industry. You will be greatly missed, and I send my condolences to his family and close friends. Rest in peace.

The Woman in Black REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for Daniel Radcliffe's first performance away from the "Harry Potter" series, "The Woman in Black." In this film a young lawyer travels to a village where he discovers the ghost of a scorned woman who is terrorizing the locals for vengeance. 

So lets talk about some negatives that came from this movie shall we? Hm, well don't get me wrong I think Daniel Radcliffe is a good actor and can so a really good job but in this film I feel like he didn't act very well. He didn't seem to give it his all. At some points he did good, when there was an action scene, but otherwise he seemed to just be there and read lines. Then there is the scary parts to this film, well yes this movie did freak the hell out of me but in the end they were just silly scares that got to me (jump scares). I feel like those shouldn't be the basis of a scary movie, and I feel in this movie that they were all I really got scared at. Then at some points I feel like the movie was slow, and this isn't particularly a long movie. 

Well now there is some positives that of course came from this film. I thought the screenplay, done by Jane Goldman, was very good indeed. I was interested about the story throughout the whole film, and I felt like it did the story justice in the end. It didn't leave you with any questions. The other thing I did like was that the suspense that leads up to scary parts were very good. It kept you on the back edge of your seat (trying not to look and getting away), and it did it in a well enough fashion. I do also like how "The Woman in Black" was just creepy. The whole film, and the lady was just creepy. It did a good job at keeping you think . . . "What the hell is wrong with this lady, and what the heck is she doing this for?" Like I said with the screenplay earlier they do a great job explaining it. They had also kept true to what they said earlier in the film, which made me enjoy the ending even more. So I thought they did a good job with the ending. Now moving onto the acting of this film. Like I said above I thought at times Daniel Radcliffe could do a good job. Who I loved most in this film though was . . . Ciaràn Hinds as Mr. Daily. He did an absolute fabulous job in this film I believe, and as I always say, "He made me think he was really truly that character, and that is what makes a good actor." 

So all-in-all I am going to have to say that this film would be good for a scary movie night, because trust me after watching this movie for the first time you aren't going to fall asleep easily. It is just creepy. So if your having a scary movie night this film would be a good one to pick up at Redbox, or head to your local movie rental place and give it a shot. I can promise you will get creeped out. So on the scale out of five what am I going to rate this film? Well I can give it a three point five out of five.

The Big Lebowski REVIEW

The "Motion Picture Buff" would like to present a review for the classic film "The Big Lebowski" from the Coen brothers. This film stars Jeff Bridges and John Goodman. In "The Big Lebowski," Jeffery Lebowski, "Dude," is mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it.

Well firstly I would like to talk about the positives that came from this film, and oh my GOSH how few this film had. Um well I think the only positives that really, actually, came from this film was the acting to be honest. Everyone who was required to act in this film did a very good job at it. The person I would like to talk about in particular is John Goodman as Walter Sobchak. I hated the character but John Goodman did such a great job with the character. He "was" his character, it was just great. Oh and I will mention that this movie did make me laugh . . . once.

Now I am going to move onto the LONG list of negatives. I probably won't go into to much detail with each otherwise this might be a long freaking review. So for starters the direction of this film was just plain old weird. It just cut to random scenes of bowling things, and the whole film seemed to be jumpy. Which didn't help me considering that the plot of this film was already jumpy and all over the place. The whole movie, me and my friends were wondering what the heck was going on? There were some scenes where you were like, "Ummmmm what is happening? What does this have to do with anything?" Plus in some scenes though  you could totally tell what was going to happen, but at the same time you never really understood what was happening. I have no clue what this movie was really even about, like what was the purpose of anything at all? The direction and writing of this film comes from the Coen brothers. This is the first movie I have seen by them, and let me say that I am not looking forward to watching one of there films for a LONG time.  Next I want to go onto the music in the film . . . I was like ummm nope this is annoying the whole time. Then there is the fact that this movie is supposed to be a comedy. Um I laughed only once, not even laughed just smiled. If this is supposed to be funny, I should be creeped out and confused the whole movie, I should be laughing my butt off. For this movie though that wasn't the case. Next I want to talk about the one character in this film that really annoyed me though. That was Walter played by John Goodman. Ugh the character of Walter was just annoying he would always make himself right, even if he knew he wasn't at all! He would believe he was right, and he would do anything to make sure he was! Plus if someone told him of for talking loudly (which he did) he would FLIP OUT. He was just truly one of the most annoying characters on the screen that I have seen.

So all-in-all for a classic film to which loads of people love, I would have to say that this movie really is garbage. There is really nothing good about this film except for its actor/actresses. I know people love this movie (it has a 8.3/10 on IMDb), but personally it was just 100% garbage. What really makes me mad was that I bought it on Blu-Ray because I thought I was going to enjoy it, but nope I thought it was a terrible film and now I regret paying the extra money for Blu-Ray. So really you aren't missing nothing with not seeing this film so don't even bother with it. On a scale to five though, I am only going to be able to give this film a one out of five.
